*~*~*~*~* Monday QOTD *~*~*~*~*

Hello ladies!

Very excited to be BOTW!!! I also can't sleep to fall asleep tonight, so figured I'd get the question up and early (and apologies in advance if this has been discussed before).

Today's question is about cultural wedding traditions. I'm Albanian and there's tons of traditions that brides & grooms still follow, including (depending on the region)

- The bride is picked up by the groom's immediate family at her house - usually there's dancing that takes place outside of her home (very festive). The bride, sometimes, has a red veil that she wears while she's escorted to the hall - while keeping her head down as a sign of respect. In the past, not so much now, she also is suppose to cry because she's leaving her family behind. There's usually a morning (bride only) wedding, and a evening wedding (held by the groom and his family)
- Depending on the region, a lot of folks also don't have a ceremony. They go straight to the reception. There's bridesmaids (unmarried females), and then also the married ones are decked out in traditional clothes. Depending on how modernized the family is, the bride will dance maybe 3-5 dances the whole night, and usually stand up behind the table most of the time looking at her guests (again, this is more of the traditional/old-fashioned side)
- There's a traditional dance called the valle (guests dance all in a circle) and a shota (one on one dancing).

Anyhow, before I go into a whole novel, those are just some examples of what's normally done. Sooo, here are the questions:

1. What cultural traditions are you following in your wedding, if any?
2. If you could borrow any traditions from another culture, which would you?

For those of you that haven't seen an Albanian wedding before - here's some sample YouTube videos :)

This one's very traditional and we will most likely not follow anything besides the dancing:

FH and I will be dancing this, as well as this being my dance w/ my dad (there's different ways of dancing as well)

Youre good! Lol

My FHs family is Latin so we'll be incorporating spanish music and we're going to do a salsa number.

My moms family is jewish so we'll have the hora ane maybe the chair lifting. Havent decides on that yet! I dont wanna be dropped! Lol

I actually love the handfasting ceremony and may try to convince FH of that

Well, we are having a Jewish wedding. Including the hora (which I don't really like but my mom insists), which sounds similar to the dance you described.

But I think the main differences are in the ceremony... we are having the chuppah, ketubah, the whole 9.

i'm filipino and FH's german/italian. For the ceremony, we'll be doing the filipino tradition of coin, veil, cord and candles

I'm Mexican, Irish, German, English but very American overall so the only traditional things we'll have is probably some mariachi/cumbia/ranchera music at the reception (unless I can find a good mariachi soloist)...

I would borrow the 'shota' from Albanian weddings lol!
