$$$$$$ Money

$$$$$$ Money

Just wondering about something. I hear people talk a lot about splitting costs of things and 'he pays for this, I pay for that...' kind of thing. I can't really relate because we are living together and pretty much pool together whatever money each of us bring in, and didn't have almost any money to start with when we first moved in. So everything we've got has really always been 'ours' and never his or mine, we just share.

So, my question is, do those of you who either met later in life or who met after establishing yourselves financially find any conflict over money, or a feeling that you should contribute x% and he contributes x%, and do you think that will continue when you're married? I know married couples who do this, I was just wondering if you guys find it easy to transition into 'ours' or if you still keep money separate. I can see this being an issue for people where one makes a lot more than the other, or one has an inheritance, etc.

We met in college, and moved in together right after. We both didn't have a full time teaching position, but eventually got them. So we didn't have anything prior to living together, and slowly purchased a house, 2 big screen tv's, bed sets, etc.

We put a specific amount of dollars into our joint account/ savings, and the rest into our own account. I find this to be the best solution because I can go and spend my own money on his birthday gift, or on a weekend away with the girls, and he can purchase his silly $1000 golf set without me being upset that he spent our money on it. I know it shouldn't be about yours, mine, and ours, but it works best for us. I like knowing I have money that I can spend on whatever I like.

We also had nothing when we moved in together...we pool most of our money, but do have separate accounts.....

FH and I live together, but we share expenses. It is easier for us at this time in our lives to split costs of certain things like rent. and utilities. We plan to join our accounts completly when we get hitched. I don;t forsee any problem combinding our incomes when we are married... we don't fight about very often and if we do its because we want something and we don't have the money for it.

We keep our money completely separate -- even though we own a house. I just cant imagine pooling it b/c he spends and spends...and I am more conservative with my money. I guess it will be weird when we are married...but I really like keeping it separate

I guess a lot of us are in the same position... we have separate accounts also but just because we're lazy I think. That's where we get money to buy each other gifts and stuff but we pay bills and stuff out of whichever account has more money at the time, haha.

supposedly - you are supposed to it like this...

add up both your salarys and let say 'Bill's' income is 35% of the total income, then 35% is what Bill would put into the account for bills/utilities so that each person is contributing based on what they make rather than splitting it down the middle - that way its fair - and each is also able to build savings as well( read that somewhere but I don't remember where)

i just moved in with fh but we still have seperate bank accounts. Maybe im selfish, but i like having my own money and not having to answer to anyone on how i spend it ( which it usually goes to bills anyway lol). After we're married we'll have a joint account but keep our seperate accounts as well. I just dont feel the need to combine it right now.

FH & I already live together and we split things and each have our own money. It works best for now
