Money Issues... Again

A friend of mine recently lost her job last year. Around that same time her fiancee decided to quit his job. She recently found a job in Dec but her fiancee is still not working. On top of that they wiped out most of their savings to pay for a legal issue involving their parents. Their wedding is five months away and she's been hysterical about not being able to pay the balances to any of the vendors including their hall!

I tried to calm her nerves about it because I was in a similar situation not long ago when I lost my job last year, but it really seems like they aren't going to make it to the wedding day. They've discussed taking out a loan, but how realistic is that? I suggested trying to talk to the vendors to see if their contracts can be amended to smaller packages or lesser amounts. Has anyone ever tried doing that? Has anyone been in a similar situation?

I'm desperate to help her... She' s been absolutely miserable...

Hi, I'm sorry for what your friend is going through. We had a year & 4 month engagement & picked the vendors that we wanted & our dream honeymoon & although we were saving what we could, about 6 months b4 the wedding we saw there was NO way to pay off what was owed. We took out a sizable loan from our credit card company at a 1.3% rate for a year...we're still paying that off, but should be debt free in another month or so...it was the only way out for us. Looking back we probably should have cut back, but we had our dream wedding & honeymoon & it will be something we'll always remember.
