OK, here is my ?? Originally me and FH wanted to have a small wedding (around 75 people). When we began making out list, we realized he had like 50 people from his side of the family that 'had' to be invited (including friends of the family). My parents are giving us 10k but his fam has not yet said anything about contributing. Am I wrong to think that since we invited so many people that my FMIL wanted us to invite that they should be chipping in? Any advice would be appreciated

Well I would just talk to her and day listen you can have an many people as you want but we can only afford to pay for X amont and anyone over that number if you would like that them your going to have to cover the cost - and let her know that your family is helping out also so she doesnt feel like your asking something of her that your not asking your own family

It's a tough situation...but you honestly can't expect anyone to pay for anything. it sure would be GREAT if they did pitch in, but they're not obligated.
I would talk to your FI, who in turn could possibly talk to his family and let them know that the guest list is a little out of control, and needs to be cut down. He should tell them what your budget is, and cut down the list. In the end, there are people that don't exactly 'HAVE TO BE THERE'....set a strict guideline such as 'Only immediate relatives, only people they speak to frequently, etc.'
Our guestlist got out of control on both sides, and we each approached our families and told them 'Listen, we wanted to have a small wedding, and there are more people that you guys want to invite than our close friends. You can either cut them off the guest list or pay for them.' Fortunately, our families decided to split the hall and in turn pay for their own people. My parents invited personal friends of theirs that I have never met...they were people I could take off the guestlist, but since my parents decided to pay for them, I'm not saying anything.
