I realize it's more common to a lot of OOTers to give gifts for the wedding rather than checks/cash. Does anyone know what kind of gifts are typically given at a wedding?
I got a lot from my shower and am wondering if someone's going to actually bring a pot to the shower, or if I should add other stuff to the registry. I could use the cash, honestly, but don't know how to answer when OOTers ask me where I'm registered.
Thanks!

Re: Money vs Physical Gifts for Wedding
People who brought gifts typically gave fine china. A few others gave 'theme' gifts. For example we got wine accessories, wine, and wine glasses from one couple. I think it really depends on the area that they are from. In general, we got money.

Well...that is a hard one! I hate to sound greedy, but we need the cash more than the gifts! I am sure most will give you money...

If you're hoping for cash, have a small registry. A low amount of items on the registry signals to guests that you're not hoping for housewares as gifts. Unfortunately, there's no way to stipulate you want money only without it being an etiquette transgression.
ETA--clarification.

Thanks for your answers. I didn't register for china or crystal, so there isn't anything like that on my registry. I may just take the few remaining pots/pans off and hope for cash. Thanks again!

Re: Money vs Physical Gifts for Wedding
i would definitely take everything off your registry. some people still got me things off there after my shower.
some people also brought random gifts to the wedding that were DEFINITELY not on my registry....so be forewarned--you may get some crazy stuff!

Re: Money vs Physical Gifts for Wedding
FH's family is from OOT, as are a lot of our friends. We actually live OOT right now. Cash is always nice, but I'm pretty sure they are going to give wrapped gifts and as long as they are from our registry we're happy to get either. I told FMIL to try to spread word to have things sent to us here (we live OOT) rather than bringing it to NY for the wedding. My plan is that any gifts brought to the reception will fly back with FILs because we are leaving for our honeymoon and then going straight back here...
Unfortunately most of our china was purchased for our e-party so I have no clue what will be left after my shower(s?) ... people giving wrapped gifts might be getting us totally random stuff!

i agree with krisa.. i think we have all the basics from our registry already.. i know i shouldn't say it out loud, but i hope i get money.. we need that so much more.. the rest of our gifts we could buy with the money

Re: Money vs Physical Gifts for Wedding
I went to 4 weddings last year and the only one where we saw actual gifts, not money was in Pennsylviania. The other weddings were just cards.
