Monogram cake toppers?

I want to do a monogram for the cake topper. Does anyone know the best size to use? Im having a 6 tier wedding cake. I dont want it to small but I dont want it to overpower the cake and look gaudy.

There are different recommended sizes based on the size of the top layer of your cake.

For example, my top layer (on my 4 layer wedding cake) was 8 inches square. They recommended upto a 6' size monogram letter (we only used the last name initial). I think I ordered the 5.5' since we were having fresh flowers as a topper and the monogram letter on top of that. I thought it was perfect.

My topper was a DIY. I ordered a 5' letter. The prongs that went into the cake are about 3.5' apart. HTH
