Re: monograms

I don't have much time to explain since I'm on my way out the door soon, but I may be able to help. Hope this isn't too confusing!

I'm used to using layout programs like PageMaker and Quark, but they're too old and not compatible with my printer. Instead, I used MS Word.

Open up a new document. Create a text box by scrolling to the INSERT menu and going down to TEXT BOX. Then in the box, make sure you have a cursor and type in your initial or name in that box. Highlight the text you want to manipulate. Scroll to the FORMAT menu and choose FONT. It will bring up a box with choices. Choose your font, point size of lettering, and style (if you want bold or shadow, etc. Once you've chosen your font, click on the box so a hand appears, copy or duplicate the text box, and paste it onto the page. You may have to drag it to where you want it. Do the same again to create each piece of the monogram. In other words, if you have 2 first name initials, and then your married last name initial in the middle, you'll create 3 text boxes and size the font inside appropriately.

Go to VIEW and scroll to FORMATTING PALETTE. This will pop up on the side of your screen and there are many things here that you'll need, especially one that says SIZE, ROTATION, AND ORDERING. When you click on LAYERING in that segment of the palette, you can send text to the back, which is how everyone is getting their letters to overlap nicely. To get rid of the line around the text box, go into the segment that says COLORS, WEIGHTS, AND FILLS. Where it says LINE, click on COLOR and a color palette pops up. Select NO LINE and the border should disappear.

I know this sounds like a lot, but I gotta run now..... hope this helps a bit to get you started. :)
