So, earlier today my step-father slipped on some ice and popped his kneecap... he's going in for surgery soon. i was supposed to go to the city with friends, but I don't know if I should. My mom said to go, since there's really nothing i can do, but i feel like I should stay.
So, do I stay here? Or do I go into the city as planned?

Tough one... you should do what your heart is telling you because if you go you will probably feel guilty and not enjoy yourself.
On the other hand, if there is nothing that you can do then maybe you should go...

Go to the city - Do you really think your Step Dad wants you to miss your New Years plans to sit around w/ him ?? - I'm sure your mom is more than happy to have a night w/ him !! Buy them a bottle of champagne and some noisemakers........!! =)

you couldnt pay me enough $ to go to the city on NYE....but i hate crowds and cold..... and id rather welcome the new year with family
in your case however, i fyou really want to go, and you were given permission that everything is ok, then go. but if you feel inside like youl be feeling guilty all night, stay home with your family....

If you feel comfortable, I would go in to the city and have fun!!! I am sure too that your step-dad wouldn't want you to miss the fun!

I would go to the city as you planed it. If he is just sitting home then and he is relaxing to get better. THen go for it.

If it were me, and I knew the surgery was over and a success, I would go. There really isnt anything you can do for your stepfather at midnight anyways. let him rest and spend time with him tomorrow.

That's tough!
Is he out of surgery?? if you will see him before you go to the city, then I say go. If he isn't going to be out until late, and you would not be at the hospital anyway, i say go...
If you think that you'll feel bad if he gets out of surgery and everyone is there but you, then stay...

thanks everyone - I went to the city and it was a blast!
Step-father stayed in the hospital overnight since he broke his knee But the surgery went well and he's doing fine. I'm going to go over and visit him today for a while.
I just can't believe this happend three days before we're moving... And I need to leave on monday since i have to work...
I'm just going to have to do as much as I can between now and monday I guess...
