More about deceased parent names on invites . . .

More about deceased parent names on invites . . .

How would one mention a deceased parent, the living parent, AND the living parent's new wife?

My FH is in this situation- some say not to mention his (deceased) mother's name at all.

It is important to my FH, and I really feel that it is his choice as to what to do, but we still can't figure out how to include EVERYONE so that nobody ends up insulted or upset.

Also, any additional ideas to honor the memory of a deceased parent/relative would greatly be appreciated.

At a time so special in life, I find it very important to somehow recognize those we have loved and lost . . . but it seems to be a difficult and sensitive issue.

I would think that his natural parents should be included on the invite but this is just my opinion.

To help us with sort of the same situation, I had scroll printed up w/ a poem on it and at the bottom next to each of there names was a charity that we made a donation to based up on what they had suffered from. This way was no one was left out. It was the easiest solution. My parents were listed on the invite and DH parents were on the scroll. We gave it out as a favor at the end of the night. We thought it was a great idea to honor the people that had been such a vital part of our lives but had not lived long enough to share in our special day.

In lieu of favors,
The new Mr. & Mrs.
Are giving a gift unique

Not a candle,
Or a picture frame,
Or a cup from which to drink.

To remember the ones,
Who remain in our hearts
But couldn't be here today.

A donation was made,
To honour their memory,
In our very special way.

My SIL father died prior to her wedding and she put on her invite:

Mrs. ________ __________

and in memory of her late (??) husband, Mr. ________ __________

request the honour of your presence

etc. etc.

This is not the same situation with the other parent remarrying, but maybe she could just say:

Mr. and Mrs. __________ ____________

and in memory of Mr. _________ __________

request the honour of your presence

etc. etc.

Hope this helps.

I like Jacqueline idea, and I have seen comments about it in some wedding programs. I even have seen it when people that live abroad could not come (due politics or so) are mentioned in the programs.

I am in the same situation, my Dad passed almost 2 years ago, and I think that I am going to do a lot to honor my Dad, on the bottom of the invites, a special flower in my bouquet, and where my Dad would sit, I am going to place a white rose, with a poem I am writing for him. And since our wedding day falls on Dad's Birthday, I am going to have a small B'day cake on the head table. (Dad always loved a big fuss over him)

I am in the same situation. My dad (my only parent) passed away 2 1/2 years ago. I am going to light a candle and have a moment of silence for him. I am not sure how to include him in the invitation. Any ideas?

This is what I did:

The honour of your presence is requested
at the marriage uniting the children of
Mr. John Doe and the beloved Mrs. John Doe
and
Mr. and Mrs. John Smith
(I inserted a symbol here)
Mary
and
Tim
will be wed on Saturday, the. thrty first of .......etc

Hope that helps.

Re: my experience...

Since a deceased person cannot issue an invite I would not include their name on the 'request the honor' line, but instead
Emma Smith
daughter of Mrs. Lynn Smith and the late Mr. John Smith
request the honor

I missed both of my grandmothers every single day of my planning (well, I miss them everyday anyway) and honored them in many, many ways but many of them were not known to lots of people. I wore my Nanny's diamond cross, I pinned inside my gown the #1 granddaughter charm my Nanny gave me when I was 15, I carried the bible my Grandmother carried (and my Mom) when got married and I played the Ava Marie for the Mom's enterance (a special song to my grandmothers). I also had their photos on my dresser as I got ready.
