More FMIL Troubles

More FMIL Troubles

To follow up on my post about FMIL & RSVPs (we're going to order on Saturday) I was right: she wants her peoples response cards to come to her. I found this out during a non-chalant talk with FH which means a lot has been discussed without my knowledge. I knew FMIL thought that a friend she wanted at my shower was purposely not invited (reality: her invite got lost in the mail and we sent another) and FH confirmed her craziness when he told me that she wants her rsvps and her address on the return envelope because that way she'll know they went out.

at first i was really upset about this...why does this woman make such a big deal about EVERYTHING? Why can't I have just one nice wedding planning moment? But then my father made a really good point: if she wants to track her own RSVPs let her, it will be less work for me and inevitably, she's sure to screw it up (she admits herself how disorganized she is.)

Now there's the actual invite, which I already picked out and was told that 'whatever I like will be beautiful.' But given FMIL's track record, she's bound to not like it and cause a fuss (she is the bride, after all...or at least she thinks so.) So if that happens, what do I do? Walk out of the store? Order the ones I like for my friends? What?

Please help.

Re: More FMIL Troubles

I can imagine how frustrating this is... My FMIL tries to get a little too involved too... and I think she also sometimes forgets that the wedding isn't about her...it's about me and FH and what we want. We've been more than accomodating on a lot of things, but we also have definite opinions of others - and she's just going to have to deal.

We have compromised on some details where it just wasn't worth the fight or we didn't care all that much - but most of our stuff we've really stuck to our guns.

As far as your invites...get what YOU want! As my mom has told me - don't ask anyone else's opinion - because you'll never make everyone happy, and everyone will have an opinion (ironically, she's pulled the same $#@! on me too). Your FMIL may throw a fit initially, but she will get over it and realize in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn't matter - all that matters is that her son and you are happy. If she doesn't get past it and realize that - she'll just have to deal with it because it will only make things difficult between you.

Re: More FMIL Troubles

Order what you and your FH like and have the rsvps go where YOU want them to go. I think traditionally, they go to the Brides parents.

Re: More FMIL Troubles

Order the invites that YOU want, its your wedding!! Have all the RSVPs go to one place and just tell her that you will inform her of who and when her friends RSVP.

GOOD LUCK
