More Fortunoff News

FH and I switched almost everything to BBB last night and we had to go into Fortunoff to buy some things and use up our gift cards. As I walk in my sisters friend is registering - I honestly can't believe they are still letting girls register right now. So we go up to the register to pay and I ask the woman at the register about what's going on. She said the store is not getting any new shipments and they aren't allowed to order anything. It is true that they aren't selling gift cards anymore. She said a lot of people were laid off a few months ago and they got a package and she said I wish they lay me off because now when we close I'll get nothing. I really felt so bad for her. She also said we really don't know what to tell anyone, she was like we are just gonna walk in one day and that will be she it. She said they will most likely be bought over by liquidators. It's really sad, it's all happening so fast. I thought I would be fine up until my shower but which is March 14th but it's not looking that way.

They are having a cash flow issue (my bm works for them) and therefore their distributors have stopped shippign to them. You are not allowed to purchase new gift cards or open up the credit card. No one knows anything and its really sad!

If you girls need help switching everything over you can bring your Fortunoff registry to BBB and they will help you with changing things over. They really helped a lot so weren't going crazy all around the store. We did have to pick some different things but it wasn't too bad.

We're registered at Fortunoff and Crate and Barrel-I think we'll put all the china and linens over to Bloomies and all the kitchen stuff to C&B.

The one thing that s*cks is our 'good' glasses, which are by Royal Daulton, we can't find anywhere and as an engagement gift we receieved all 12 champagne glasses;so what's left are the wine glasses & iced beverage. If Fortunoff's closes we are stuck with champagne glasses that don't match anything

Jamie, if you bring your Fortunoff Printout to BBB they can do everything for you? That's pretty good, seems like a pretty painless provess, I'm so nervous, my parents said not to do anything yet but I don't wanna be $h!t outta luck if they close before my shower.....

It really wasn't that bad. They were really helpful over at BBB. They had almost everything we had to switch over but the only bad part was some things were different. So we had to part with the decorative towel set that we really wanted we were fine with switching everything else over. We wound up buying our everyday glasses at Fortunoff and Pilsner glasses that FH loved.

Well, if they wind up having liquidation sales, you could probably get those wine glasses for, like, 70% off at some point.

That's true. If they liquidate I'm going shopping.

I just registered there and the woman didn't say anything at all about them in trouble or closing. She asked me when my wedding date was and was telling me whatever isn't purchased off my registry, we get a certain percentage off. And we have up to 180 days after the wedding to make returns. There were a lot of girls registering the same day as I was and the store was pretty packed. I'm so confused. I don't know what to do! Like we really need to stress about this on top pf everything else right?

I have the same problem. My invites are out and I think my shower is either very late Feb. or in the first half of March. I am just going to leave as is and hope for the best. About 1/2 of my Fortunoff registry was bought and I did 50-50 between Macys and Fortunoff so I will let be and hope for the best! I am not to worried about returns (I made sure to only register for things I actually want)- I just hope everything arrives unbroken and I do not get any giftcards- lol!

It's kinda rude and nasty that they are still letting girls do registries without telling them anything. I understand that a formal statement has to go out.. but still... that's like screwing with someone unnecesarily! Companies that do these things make me soo angry!

I think FH and I may go to Bloomingdales this week and re-register.
And I'll transfer all the kitchen stuff over to C&B.
I'll keep the glasses on Fortunoff only.
Thankfully my shower isn't until the summer time (I think).

When I first saw this article I didn't think anything of it I just figured they would reorganize again and get Bankruptcy protection but I think it's pretty bad this time.

Hopefully they will agree to sell to the company that owns Lord and Taylor
