So the good news....I finally got my guest list from FMIL
The bad news-- It has well over 100 people on it, and I barely know most of them, including like at least 20 people whose names I don't even recognize

I totally hear you The list I got was 70!! Considering we only want 120 at the wedding I thought this was a bit much. this includes some of her co-workers, some of her cousins who I have never met and FH hasn't seen in years and years oh yeah and their old landlord who she is still friend with.
You just have to cut people. I was lucky enough to get a a/b list.

I'm sorry....we had the same issue (well FFIL and all his random cousins who we 'can't offend' despite the fact that we've never even heard of these people and he hasn't talked to them in years). So yeah, I feel for you. Depending on who's paying for this and what your min. is I'd either just let it go and not stress or put your foot down. Good luck!

ITA. My FH claims to work on the list over our vacation next week. He knows eway least people than I do and he's not so close to his family and I don't think it should be too many more people.

damn FMIL!!!! jk-- I cant complain.. our list is 260 now and 40 is FH side... but he hasnt seen 20 of them and is closer with my fam!!! buttt if its important to his mom I have to do it!!

It's sort of a double edged sword because I do have a high minimum, but I really don't want random and a half people there.
My hall said if I don't make my min instead of paying for empty seats I can apply it toward an upgrade like a VH or a seafood boat. I would MUCH rather do that than pay for people I've never met.
I think most of the OOTers will not show up, but that makes it even harder, when you really can't predict your guest list return rate.
Argh!
If they knew it was costing $XXX pp (plus invitations, flowers etc) for all these people, and THEY had to pay it, I don't think they would have given me such a long list.
ETA: We are paying, with some promised help from my sister and BIL. His parents have gone back and forth about helping us. At last word they were like oh, if you need 5 or six hundred, that's no problem.. Wow.. 1% of the wedding budget. Thanks a million. That will pay for like, 4 of your Tom, **** and Harry guest list,.
