Just wondering when is the appropriate time to choose one`s maid/matron of honor and whether it`s ok to have more than one? When I got engaged back in May, I had asked several of my close female friends to be bridesmaids, and they all accepted. However, I had let them know that I had not yet chosen a maid of honor. As I don`t have a sister or only one 'best friend,' I initially thought I`d ask my mom to serve this honor, but I think she is more comfortable and prefers to walk me down the aisle with my dad. So my situation now is that I have one friend whom I have known for about 15 years, we went to high school together, the whole nine yards. For that reason alone, I feel it should be this woman to be my maid of honor. However, I have another close friend from college whom I actually feel a bit closer to than the first woman. I know that friend #1 (high school) will be devastated if I don`t ask her and that friend #2 will be more understanding if I ask #1 for longevity reasons. What I really want to do is ask them both. As friend #2 is married, it would effectively be having both a maid and a matron of honor. Is this appropriate? What do people think? And when do I ask them? Thanks in advance!

I'm having a Maid of Honor and a Matron of Honor too:)
I'm having a Maid of Honor and a Matron of Honor, also 2 Best Men. It was too hard for us both to pick just one.

I had a maid of honor and a matron of honor
I didn't want to decide between my sister and my best friend so I asked them both. It worked out fine. There's no set rule.

More than one maid/matron of honor?
DO it! Even if you had to have two maid of honors, do it! I chose between two friends and now one of them isn't even coming ot the wedding.

Thanks, everyone! It sounds like this is not an uncommon thing to do, so it's probably what I will do. When is an appropriate time to ask, do you think? The wedding's not til July '03...
