Morning Sickness for the Newbies - Tammyjill!

As per your request Tammy! I know it's hard when you are reading tons of information, and you just want the info straight!. The thing is, so many people experience things differently....but I will start this post for morning sickness and hopefully people will add on.

The tricky thing with morning sickness is you may notice it morning noon and night - or just one of those - any combination really. I was never sick in the morning. ONLY at night. I never threw up but the feeling was constantly there starting at about 6:00 pm through the night. I always felt great in the mornings but the night was hell. It felt like terrible nausea, sometimes dizziness, kind of motion sickness feeling. Almost like throwing up would help. It definitely deterred me from eating and I found I wanted only very bland things (and lots of chocolate milk)

My suggestion on this symptom is to eat at this time what your body calls for. And everybody wants something different to settle it. Some people like ginger candies, ginger snap cookies (supposedly helps to soothe the nausea), saltines, pretzels, all kinds of stuff. Some people use the wristbands that they give you for motion sickness. Some people like to use Tums to calm things down. You'll do a lot of trial and error, but I found that what my body called for was usually what made me feel a lot better. Cereal helped for me- saltines were deadly - so there is no knowing until you are there! And dont' worry about your appetite. Though it's ideal to start a great diet in the first tri-mester, I challenge anybody here to have a dish of steamed spinach when they are on the verge of puking. Sorry but it's true. The baby will be fine - just do your best and try to at least keep the calcium flowing with a couple of glasses of milk a day. If you can't stomach that, you can take the calcium supplements or Tums has lots of calcium too. And of course - don't forget to take your pre-natal vitamin.

Heartburn / Acid Reflux I didnt' start getting until this last month but I know a lot of people experience it. I think I would categorize this as a separate symptom. It's very different from feeling nausea.

Tammyjill, when I got prego I hated milk also so he told me to take tums. You might want to ask he if you should start taking them before you TTC. He had told me next time he was going to have me start taking them before I TTC (I am not going to TTC though...to old ) Anyway the funny think is after I had JJ I love milk!! Isn't that weird?

I've always hated milk also I'll only drink it in coffee or in cereal (but very little in my cereal). I'll drink chocolate milk though.

Oh yeah Caltrate is fine didn't know you were taking that...I hated milk since that young also. After I had JJ I breastfeed and something made me want to drink milk because I know it was good for him when I was breastfeeding...and don't know what happened but I like it!! You I do remember though when I took the tums I felt real sick so he switched me to calrate!! Good Luck to you!!
