Mortgage Help...if moving out of state...what to do?
Do we apply up here at our bank? Do we apply after we've found a house where we are going?
How does it work if you are relocating and unsure of a job...do you wait till you have a job lined up first????
DH and I are VERY confused which is making him lean towards renting first when we relocate.

FH and I are looking to relocate to NJ now. So far we have pre-approvals from lending institutions able to do so in the area we are looking. As far as jobs go, we are both planning on keeping our current ones since they are both commutable.

I think the banks prefer the lendees to have a job before they approve you.....i think i would rent first (maybe you can find a 6 month lease?) This way you can get used to the area and do more research on lenders. For the lenders you can check out the local banks , or maybe go through a national lender such as Citibank.

It depends really on your credit as far as the employment thing.... FH and I got pre-approved at a time when I was just recently laid off.

I'll be getting a new job and DH might or might not transfer within his company. OUr credit is eh....his is better than mine and we are planning on having to ask one of our sets of parents to co-sign.
Maybe we really should rent first....

I would definitely rent first. Whats the rush to get a house anyways? Maybe you will move away and hate it. Then what? Sell a house you just bought... ya know?

Do the rent thing first that way u aren't rushing into anything this will give u time to really look around and find what u really want!! JMO

we're looking to move by the end of the year but we're planning on renting first. we always said next step is buying, but id rather get used to the area and find jobs and get settled first.
