Mortgage-out of town bank?

Mortgage-out of town bank?

Hi
Anyone use an out of town bank for your mortgage...and how are things going with that? I see some great rates all across the country but do not know what to think about using a bank that is not 'here'.

I was going to do that , but my attorney advised us not too. he said it is better to go local and be meeting with these people face to face.

my DH does mortages on the side during the summer. He works with mostly out of town banks and has found great rates for people. We recently got a HELOC loan from one of the out of town banks he found and got an amazing deal! You have to go with what you feel comfortable with though. My DH didn't do mortages until after we bought our house so I dont know if there are problems b/c not meeting them face to face.

We are using Home Finance of America- so far, they have been great- goodrates and really responsive- we hopefully close in a couple of weeks, so we'll see how it all turns out!
