mortified - another invitation mishap! UPDATE in original post

I SERIOUSLY hate the US Post Office right now.

Two of my FILs' guests said they never got an invitation. It was never returned (and at least 10 were returned for us for various reasons, the main one being the post office ***** arse).

Now, granted, had my FMIL called these people LAST WEEK like we asked her to, we would have known well in advance, but no, she waited until we asked her 4 or 5 times to call and found out well after our RSVP date.

I've gotten every excuse in the book as to why people didn't respond, the most frequent one being 'we mailed it. I guess it got lost.' However, these are the only 2 that said they didn't get an invite... so I guess I have to give them the benefit of the doubt. They DID get save the dates. I don't know why this NEVER came up in the past month if these are such good friends of theirs.

Now I'm MORTIFIED that they got a STD and never received the invite. I'm 150% POSITIVE they were both mailed and NEVER returned.

I made up a new set of invites last night that are going out now, and I am also writing them each a handwritten apology / explanation note. I've never met them, but I feel it's the right thing to do, since this was completely inadvertent.

Do you think that's sufficient?

I feel like an idiot. \

UPDATE: The night I put together the new invites, I sent my FMIL an email, apologizing for the invitation mishap and explaining I'd be sending them new invitations with a handwritten apology note. She writes me back last night (after everything had already gone out) to say, 'Oh Mrs. So-and-So called me back and it turns out they actually did get the invitation. Only the X's didn't get it.'

Is she freakin' kidding me?

Did this woman FORGET she got a wedding invite? Lie b/c she lost it? Or did my FMIL lie and say they never got it b/c she just thought maybe they didn't?

They're not even coming and I spent all that time and $ sending them anther invite and writing such a nice apology note?

Sorry to hear about your aggravation. Yes that is the proper thing to do.

We had a couple or RSVPs that people mailed back and we never got - it happens.

It's fine - I think most people would probably just satisfy themselves with an invite and explanation by phone. It happens. When the invite randomly shows up 2 months after your wedding, you'll all have a laugh.

I've never met these people, so I don't feel comfortable calling them myself. Todd's parents already spoke to them, but I thought I should write some sort of note to apologize.

I just wrote out a brief little note on my nice stationery and popped it in the mail with the invites.

I think that it's a really graceful way to handle the situation being that you have never met them before. I'm sure that they will really appreciate your efforts & that everything will be 100% fine now.

I am so sorry for the continued invite mishaps.

You handled the situation very gracefully though.

I have had the same issue with my invites not making it to the same location that my STD's went to. I HATE THE DAMN USPS!!!!!! THEY SUCK! First the damn stamps issue & now this. You'd think that since they have doing this forever & that they would get their s**t together!!!

I am sure that they will understand- I think it is nice that you are taking the time to send them a new invite and an apology.

The pony express was probably more accurate and faster than the post office!
