I have looked at David's Bridals and Jim Hjelm occasion dresses for my BM's. Is it worth it to spend over $240 on dresses that they most likely won't wear again or should I go with less expensive dresses?
What is the most popular BM designer dresses, price range and retailer to buy BM dresses in Nassau County? Just curious what most people are doing?

Re: Most popular BM dresses
Imo is it worth it to spend a lot of money on a bridesmaid dress absolutely not. With that being said I did end up going with a Jim Hjelm dress because he is the only one that had the color I really wanted. I felt really bad that my girls had to spend that much on a dress.
Alfred Angelo and Watters Watters have some really great dress for not that much money.

Re: Most popular BM dresses
The dresses I have picked out for my girls are Alfred Angelo. His dresses are very reasonable and very pretty. The dresses I picked out for the girls are $155-$159 which is a good price. They are also tea length dresses and they can actually wear them again if they wanted to. One another word of advice on AA dresses. I was a BM last year and wore a long, straight satin dress. I had it hemmed and wore it to another wedding.

Re: Most popular BM dresses
i got mine from David's Bridal, they came out to about $120 per dress, so far I have had good experiences w/ them. For my sister's wedding we wore Bill Levkoff dresses. Good luck!

Re: Most popular BM dresses
My girls got their dresses from David's Bridal. I went there because I didn't want them to spend a lot on something they might not wear again. 2 of my bridesmaids were trying to get pregnant (and now are) we needed a place that had similar dresses or a switch could be made. DB would be able to switch dresses if we needed. Now they are just going to order the 2nd dress we picked out. The dresses are only $135 for the reg. bm dresses. Alterations will be done elsewhere.
I had just been in 2 weddings and the costs can add up. One dress was from DB and was so comfy and only $160. The other was from a bridal shop and and was almost $300 with alterations. It is a nice dress but i doubt i will ever wear it again.

Re: Most popular BM dresses
I'm going to try to stay away from REALLY expensive gowns. Though my bridesmaids will be like if it's worth the money...why not.
But I'm going to try be reasonable when it comes to the bridesmaids dresses, I'm leaning towards Alfred Angelo and definitely staying away from David's Bridal...

Re: Most popular BM dresses
My BM dresses were expensive at over 300 each. They were nice certainly but I feel pretty badly in retrospect making them spend that much, and the dress will never be worn again.

My BM dresses are from David's Bridal and they were $125. I didn't want them spending a lot because our wedding is in LI but my BM's are from CT so they will spending money on hotels and travel too.

I am really into the J.Crew dresses
Hey my BMS just re-ordered their dresses from JCrew and they all love it. I just got an email this weekend said 30% off everything if the order is over $250.
The BM dresses majority ordered was the Gracen and Clementine. The color I wanted was on sale for $175, went down from $215 for the Gracen and with the 30% off and free ship plus tax it was only $133!!! The Clementine ended up being $167.
FYI - tell your girls to order the dress at the store - with the RED PHONE - they give you FREE SHIP everytime and if you have a promo code they will honor it!
Oh and these dresses can be worn again and again.

Re: Most popular BM dresses
My BMs had Impressions dresses... they looked great on everyone and were right around $150! (and one of them has already worn it to another wedding!)

Re: Most popular BM dresses
My BM dresses were Vineyard from Priscilla of Boston. THey were only $198. The dresses were cheaper than most of the typical BM designers I looked at.
I think the biggest thing with if they can wear the dress again is the color......if it is a color they can wear again then maybe they wont feel so bad spending more. I had to wear a coral BM dress and I personally would never wear that color again but my BM dresses were red and I know I would wear that color again and many of my BM would too.

Re: Most popular BM dresses
my girls will be wearing Alvina Valenta. I also looked at Tadashi dresses for my girls but the preferred the Alvina Valenta. I want my gils to look hot on the day of my wedding so typical bridesmaids dresses werent giving me the look I wanted. My MOH will have her dress made and it will be fashioned after the Ines Di Santo 'Nica' dress minus the train. If it comes out right it will be very glamorous and sexy.

Re: Most popular BM dresses
I think a cheaper dress is better. Try the Jasmine B2 line most are around $150-$180.
