Does anyone know the exact specification on what is a mother/daughter house and how does it differ from a 2 family?
We are looking at one in Queens and it has a separate entrance and separate utlitys, so to me it is a 2 family, but the realter says it is a mother/dauther permit so it is legally rentable. I am confused?

Re: Mother-Daughter House ?
as I understand it...I live in suffolk so the laws maybe different elsewhere... No sperate untilies.
Where as an apt has seperate untilites.
I lived in a rentable apt in Massapequa but it was considered a mother/daughter because my utilies were not seperate!
I hope that helps. I know that you can get the guildlines from your town office. That will give you the different options!!
