Mother-Daughter or Brother-Sister Dance?? Opinions - repeat from 09' brd

Hi Ladies, so at the risk of being too personal I really need your HONEST opinions!!! My parents separated when I was 2 and while my brother's & I spent our early childhood weekends w/my dad, once he realized my mom & him were never going to reconcile he stopped paying child support and taking us anywhere on the weekends. Not wanting us to stay inside allday every weekend my mom stopped making us go over and our relationship progressively deteriorated until he moved to FL (against our begging him not too when I was 16). As an adult I've made the effort to be closer to him so my dad is coming to the wedding, will walk me down the aisle and we'll do the father/daughter dance. So here's where I need advice. I'm INCREDIBLY close w/both my mom and eldest brother (who's also the bestman to my FH). My mom is my bestfriend. She's so funny and amazing, even my FH loves her. The younger of the two older brothers has estranged himself from our family b/c his wife doesn't like us (long very sad story). I'd LOVE to have a mother-daughter dance, but my mom & I are traditionalists and feel that might look weird (you know, two women in dresses dancing together?). I would also love to maybe have a dance w/my eldest brother who really was more of a father to me growing up than my own father ever was, and even now as adults we're super close. This was the kind of brother who was late to school everyday at 6 b/c he'd beg my mom to feed me everymorning & get up early to play w/me everyday; would always bring me everywhere; stayed by my bedside everyday when I was sick in the hospital as a child; and even as an adult when I had heart surgery took off of work to make sure he was there (when my father didn't even call). SO...understandably, I'd like to have a meaningful dance at my wedding with at least ONE person I feel was (and still is) a real parent to me w/out looking too odd. Would it be wrong to have either a Mother/Daughter dance and/or a Brother/Sister dance? I can think of 100 songs who's lyrics resonate for what they've both meant to me (and my FH). What would you do if you had a fairly traditional family? Is one more appropriate than the other? Please help!! Don't worry about offending me. I'll appreciate honest opinions!!

You should 100% do what you feel is right, dance with your mom or your brother. I have the SAME thing going on with me as well, it is not the fun part of the planning. My dad if I have it my way won't even be coming to our wedding. I am dancing with my mom and that is a great gesture!

What about starting the dance off with your brother and then having you mom join in??? That way you get a beautiful group shot and you get to spend one of the most important moments of your wedding the way you want to

My father has passed, so I danced with my mother. We used Lee Ann Rimes-Dance (drawing a blank on the full name). I think you can do a dance with her and have your brother cut in for some of it. That is what we did with my step dad. I don't think you would want to many dances. We had one for my daughter and me, DH and my daughter, mom and me, and DH and his mom so we did the cut in with my step dad.

Yeah, maybe having my brother cut in might be good...I don't want to take up too much time and have my FH's family saying 'is she gonna dance w/EVERY member of her family?' LOL But it's hard b/c I'm so close to both of them. I also want to dance w/my dad. He wasn't the father I needed, but I know he loves me (if that makes any sense). As my mom puts it 'he's a bad father, but not a bad man', so I don't want to make him feel bad either, you know?

I think that idea that someone proposed of having your brother cut in, or you all joining as a group is a great idea. I don't know my father and wondered about dancing with my mom, but I don't think she'd be comfy having such attention on her (she' nervous enough about walking me down the aisle!). So I think sometime during the reception I'll just dance with her while everyone else is dancing as well.

I posted on 09 - I danced with my mom to wind beneath my wings, then my brother cut in and we danced the rest of the song together.. it was really beautiful.
