mother for sale

mother for sale

She told me that she might not come to the wedding because I am inviting my fathers side of the family. My parents are still married. She doesn't talk to them . Haven't for years. My father said that he doesn't want to get in the middle of it. Isn't she sweet.

My grandmother told me if my aunt comes, she isn't coming. I told her to stay home.

My mother would stay home though. She remembers things and is spiteful. Her sister wouldn't drive her to someones funeral so 40+ years later the situation was reversed and my mother said no. Then got off the phone and was sooooo happy that she had finally gotten even.

Ohhhhh. I'm so sorry!! Can your dad maybe reason with her? I mean...it's your WEDDING! Do you really think she'd do that?

My grandmother is staying home. She too is spiteful, and hasn't spoken to my aunt in 40+ years as well. That is why she said I had to chose between her and my aunt. The way I look at it, my day will be happy because my aunt is there, and my grandmother will miss out on my wedding the same way she missed my sister's because she refuses to be in the same room with ONE person among 100. HER LOSS!!

I'm so sorry! That's just wrong. My mom didn't go to my sisters college graduation, just b/c they got into a fight the night before, and I'm sure she regrets that. I don't know why people make stupid threats and decisions when it comes to once in a lifetime situations like these. I hope she changes her mind and makes the best of it for you.

Aren't families just great sometimes, oh and soooo supportive. Let things cool down and then try to talk to her when things are calmer. She doesn't have to talk to them, she can make believe that they are strangers, but I would let her know that it's important to me to have these 'strangers' at my wedding. I know that getting through to mom's sometimes is like banging your head against a wall Good luck

OK, I have an absolutely TRUE STORY and my father tells it to us with tears in his eyes all the time when it comes to inviting this one and not this one and she won't come if he's invited, etc. etc.

I'll make it short:

He had an 'uncle' Louie that when he was a small boy would take him EVERYWHERE! He was a limo driver and he'd pick my father and his friends up from school and drive them around in the limo when he could. Seriously, they had an amazing relationship... years went by and they still had a great relationship.

My Mom and Dad were dating and it came time for my Mom and Dad to get married. I think it was my Great-Grandmother (Dad's Grandmother) that said 'If Uncle Louie is invited, I'm NOT COMING!' (Tough Italian family he's got) So, being that it was his Grandmother, he didn't invite Uncle Louie to the wedding.

A few years went by... and they were at a party and Uncle Louie was there. My Dad went over and had to introduce my Mother to him as his 'wife'. He was completely shocked that he had gotten married! He didn't once make a big deal about him not being invited. He was very accepting to my Mom, welcomed her to the family, etc.

That night, he died of a heartattack.
My Dad has not fogiven himself since.

Take it from my Dad Ladies... it's YOUR wedding and YOU invite WHO YOU WANT!! You NEVER know what's going to happen and those that are THAT selfish about 'not coming if they're coming', well I say just DON'T DO IT!

Re: mother for sale

my mother made a similar statement about forbidding me from inviting my dad's aunt and cousins since she claims they don't like her and they're not 'close' to us (although she had no problem handing me her long list of aunts/uncles/second cousins/etc that I've never met). I told her she needs to deal with whatever guest list I put together and that she'll survive the night fine because she won't ever need to interact/acknowledge them...

It's YOUR wedding, not your mom's. I'm sure she was just exagerrating about not coming to your wedding but maybe if you explain that she'll be seated far away from your dad's side of the family and she doesn't need to talk to them at all, she'll realize how childish she's being?
