Mother is telling me it's too early to register for a December wedding?????

Is that true? Do people register this early?

You could register for some things, but designs and other stuff get discontinued, the store won't carry it anymore, etc. You may be better off waiting.

We registered 6 months before. I'd wait just a bit longer only because items change, new & better stuff comes out, things get discontinued...

i don't think it's too early, just be ready for stuff to change.

we registered last june for our october 2003 wedding. we did it mostly due to the fact that we had an e-party in july 2002. since that time, a TON of my stuff (incl all my towels) have been discontinued! it's been a big pain in the a$$!! also, fortunoff's will not let you register for bedding until 6 months prior, as that stuff changes constantly.

also - december is only 8 months away!! you don't know if people are going to need shower gifts (better to be registered than have them guess)!!

You can definitely start registering now.

We started one in August '02 for our Sept. '03 wedding. (we received a number of items off the registry as christmas gifts.)

That's what she said....she's going to be so happy when I tell her that the LIW ladies agree with her !

You just made her week.

I totally understand, styles change, etc. I just can't wait to do that stuff!!!! I'd love it if I could register for some handbags, and chanel make up, shoes

I dont think its too early...I registered about fifteen months before and have already gotten a bunch of engagement gifts sent!

It cant hurt to start the registery at least. It takes a long time and a lot of mind changing...and those early shoppers will love you!

lol!!!
John & I had to go back a few times because things got discontinued it was a pain in the ass.

Like the others said put some stuff on it if you like, but coffee makers, beding etc, wait to do

Crate & Barrel....Love that store.

Then did Bloomies and Fortunoffs...

The discontinuing is tricky with C&B...they have lots of seasonal items so you just have to be careful and keep a watchful eye on the registry.

THis is going to be tough...we moved into our house three years ago, bought all new furniture, bedding, etc....the only thin we need are sheets.

We bought new coffee makers....I can't really think of what to register for.

I guess there's probably a lot of cute gadgets out there that I'm not aware of.

Do people actually register for a china set? I'm totally clueless.

Kathy,
We're going through the same thing. We've been living together for 3 years and have pretty much have everything. Basically, we're screwed.

I have decided I do not need china- it is a huge waste of money. (for me, not everybody) I do not have dinner parties, and barely use my everyday dishes (we use paper).

Its not to early to register, I did it last month and I'm not getting married till June 04, so u can do what u want its up to u no one else! Its better to do it early cause then friends and family can go out now and get u engagement gifts, or when the holidays and birthdays come they can get u gits u registered for.

Too bad we can't register for every holiday!

(I know some catalogs/websites do that, but I can't recall which ones.)

-sorry...didn't mean to get off topic....too much 'vino'.

Kathy,
Will do!

I was actually told, well more like yelled at, to 'stop buying things' from my cousin/BM. I'm sure you and your FH goe through this as well; when you want/need something, you buy it. Unfortunately, that doesn't leave much for people to buy in the 'gift' department.

I don't think it is too early to register for SOME things.

We are having an engagement party so we registered for that - but my family insisted we register anyway b/c they wanted to get us gifts to congratulate us.

I would not register yet of things like bedding, towels, and table linens - seeing as they get discontinued frequently - They tell us to register for that 6 months or less before for that.

No reason you can't pick out your good stuff, and maybe your everyday stuff.

Besides if they discontinue your good stuff before then you might not want it anyway right?

Also if you might have a shower and you want it to be a surprise you should register so people will know what to buy you - otherwise you could end up with 20 orange blenders
