Mother of the bride dress

Mother of the bride dress

My mom is having a hard time finding a dress. She's a size 14-16 and doesnt like the fact that she is, so she's having a hard time feeling good in anything. She doesn't want anything too matronly. Something flattering with coverage is ideal. My wedding is merely three months away so I think bridal stores are out. Any ideas?

TIA!

Nordstroms hand down. Both my mom and MIL got their dresses from there.

I can't believe my mother had the same exact problem. We went to places all over the island nd finally found one she loves from Village Bridal in Babylon. The people there were very helpful and were even going to custom make her a little bolero jacket because she is the same size as your mom but didnt want anything to matronly either or too revealing. It was frustrating we went everywhere for months. She actually found the dress when she was alone. Just have some patience and she will find something that she loves and feels good in.

my MIL wore a 2 peice. It comes with a jacket. She wore the jacket for the ceremony and took it off for the rest of the night. It was perfect.

My mom just bought her dress this weekend at En Toto in Great Neck...but to have enough time for alterations, your mom has to move quick!

I know it's a trek, but Ivory &Co in Staten Island has a great selection and can get many gowns in under a month! I HIGHLY recommend them. When my sister got married, my mom was a 22-24, and she got a BEAUTIFUL gown there.

try Estelles you can buy dresses right off the wrack. Also Wedding Plaza in floral park is where my mom got her dress.

Good Luck

Ya know, I've heard so much about Estelles, that I should come to Long Island, from Lancaster, and look for something off the rack, because that's what I plan to do; I don't like getting measured, and waiting for a dress and then alterations. It is in Long Island? Thanks!! Mary MOB

Re: Mother of the bride dress

I was just at Estelle's yesterday looking for a dress for a wedding I'm attending as a guest. I thought they had nice stuff at reasonable prices. but for me (i'm plus size) i didn't think there was a lot of selection I liked. I also don't like the fact that the girls who work there walk around in the gowns, so you could be buying a gown someone walked around in all day.

Thanks everyone! I know she really has to move quickly. I am annoyed with her for not looking sooner but can't change it now.

My mother had the same problems!!!! Here's where we looked:

-David's Bridal in Westbury...I was preoccupied with my Bridal party and couldn't go through the racks for my mom so we relied on our attendant. And I must say what she was bringing over was very ughly and unflattering! However a week later I was in David's Bridalin LIC and took a peek, there were some decent ones!!!

-My Daughter's Wedding III (in Great Neck area)- My mother wasn't with me but I stopped to take a peek, they had decent dresses.

- Estelle's in Farmingdale. My mother was very unhappy, couldn't find anything flatering withour making her look 100 years old.

Totally You in Bellmore....BINGO! My mother got a dress that she loved and it was reasonabbly priced!!!! Dress is in my album, can't figure out how to post it from my album onto here but will try to give it a shot. N/M....just go look in my album, LOL.

Went to the photo, right clicked, 'copy image URL', came back to the post, 'insert web image' pasted the URL and voila! It's easy in Chrome.

I think in IE, there's an intermediate step, you have to go to properties and then manually copy the URL.
