Mother of the Bride Dresses????

Both my mother, and my FH's mother are questioning me as to what they should wear to my wedding. I am getting married on a Sunday afternoon. My BM are wearing dark dresses in eggplant. Do the moms have to match? A friend and I are disagreeing about this. I say that they can wear whatever they want. My friend says that they should wear something that doesn't clash with the wedding party. HELP!!!

I don't think the MOB or MOG necessarily have to match the BM dresses, but they shouldn't clash.

We chose our BM dresses last week in mocha, and I think as long as the MOB and MOG's dresses are the same color group(cranberry, brown, eggplant, etc), it will be fine...

I guess the idea is not to clash, but my mom went into the dress search saying she didn't care if she matched or not. The BMs are wearing celadon green and my mom is wearing a periwinkle/light blue. I think they go nice together.

Neutral colors are safe though

I am also getting married on a Sunday afternoon.I also feel the moms should be able to wear whatever they like. My mother is wearing a pale platinum-silver blue (not sure yet about my fiancee's mother). My bridesmaids are wearing black.

I just think that people say for them not to clash so that the pics for the wedding look good. I say they should wear what you like. I think the colors would have to be a pretty outrageous mismatch to throw off the photos that much.

Thanks for all of the responses. I told all of the moms that they can wear whatever they liked. They all seemed pretty relieved.
