I have an etiquette question in regards to my Mom's dress. She found a black dress that she loves, and I told her that I don't care what she wears to my wedding as long as she is comfortable. That she is there for me, not for what color dress she has on. (She is walking me down the isle).
However, my cousins and Aunts are giving her a problem saying that it is wrong to wear black to my wedding.
Does it really matter? I appreciate your opinion!!!
Thanks..

Re: Mother of the Bride Question...
i think it's a personal preference - there are rules that used to be in place that are no longer around - such as the MOB not wearing black to the wedding but if you like it and she likes it - go for it!

Things have changed.. this is the 2004 (almost).. I think it is personal preferences.. I don't think people will say anything and if they do.. OH WELL, IT'S YOUR WEDDING>.

Re: Mother of the Bride Question...
It the 'old' days it was frowned upon for any guest to wear black to a wedding. It was thought that black was reserved for sad occasions, not joyous ones like a wedding. Well, times have changed. Your mom should were whatever you & she are happy with her wearing. Tell you cousins & aunts to butt out.

Re: Mother of the Bride Question...
I think black is very nice and elegant and as we all know the most flattering for may women. My bridesmaids dresses are black and they and I couldn't be more excited. It is the easiest color to go with to.. You don't have to worry about dying shoes and any flower arrangement will go well with it. I think if your mother feels comfortable in black then she should definitely wear it...

Re: Mother of the Bride Question...
It is wrong to steal. It is wrong to do drugs. It is wrong to cheat. It is wrong to lie. It is NOT wrong for your mom to wear black if she wants to!!!
man, this old school wedding etiquette needs some serious updates...

Re: Mother of the Bride Question...
My mom is wearing black!! She looks great in her dress and neither us could care less what anybody else thinks or has to say about it. She should be comfortable. If you like the dress she picked and she does, I don't see a problem. It is your wedding not your aunts or cousins. What you say goes!!

Re: Mother of the Bride Question...
That's old thinking. Black is always appropriate now, as long as it isn't 'funeral' black. Dressy and pretty can not go wrong. My mom and FMIL are both wearing black. Then again my BM's are wearing B&W dresses. LOL.

Re: Mother of the Bride Question...
I think it is a matter of personal preference. I know my mom saw a black dress, but she said I can't wear that it is black. But she is old fashioned. I have been to PLENTY of weddings where the MOB and MOG have worn black. It is 2004!! (almost)

Re: Mother of the Bride Question...
As all the girls before me have said.....she can wear whatever she wants. My mother wore black to my sisters wedding a few years ago and she is wearing black again to our wedding. There are always going to be people who feel the need to make a comment. I go grief for picking red for my BM's. You can't please all of the people all of the time. It is your day.......enjoy it!

Re: Mother of the Bride Question...
Black, although being a past wedding taboo is actually now the 'new thing' to wear. Some people even have black and white weddings now. Both my mother and my fmil are wearing black to our wedding and my aunt is wearing black and white. Black is elegant and formal and your mom will look beautiful!!!

Re: Mother of the Bride Question...
My mother wore black and looked gorgeous. I think things are different these days. I was happy she wore a dress that she felt comfortable in and flattered her.

My mother wore black to my wedding- those rules are totally old fashioned & out the window! If she loves it let he get it & be happy.
