ok - since we are paying for our wedding ourselves with no help from our parents - do we get mother of the bride/groom gifts? if so - what ideas do you ladies have?

Re: mother of the bride/groom
As my mom said to me...'Why are you going to do that? Save your money!' But, I am going to get her alittle something, she is buying my dress. As far FH's parents I dont know yet, they havent done anything for us yet, times have been hard on them right now.

Re: mother of the bride/groom
this is JUST MY OPINION but if they are helping with the wedding costs...then I say yes get them a gift..........if they are not helping with ANYTHING $$$$ wise then no their gift is attending at $100+ a plate event for free.

no i wouldn't get them a gift. i think you should just give them a parent's wedding album or a nice framed photograph.

parents wedding albums are super expensive - i am going to make them through winkflash or one of those sites after i get my cd of the pictures (which is after we get our album)

that's a great idea. i'm sure they will be more than happy with this. i don't think a gift is necessary if they're not contributing

Re: mother of the bride/groom
Just a side note, and I know it doesnt apply to everyone b/c all of our situations are different....but in most cases the brides mother pays for the shower, and the grooms parents pay for the RD.....the gift is to thank them for that, and just for any help they may have given you throughout the planning process (favors, programs, stuffing envelopes) and for raising you all to be respectful, honest, responsible adults.
It doesnt have to be something that costs thousands of dollars, just a token to thank them for everything they've done for you your whole life, and for them to remember your wedding day by......most of us are probobly giving our parents a wedding picture when you get your stuff from the photographer.....a nice frame to put it in is a nice gift.....JMO i know everyone has a different family situation

Re: mother of the bride/groom
i agree - and i love my mom - but things have always been tight - and i have always had to fend for myself - i.e. working since i was very young - i put myself through college and now law school - and well neither of our parents are helping out - so that is why i didnt think it was necessary - but i am just going to get a nice frame for my mom - and i dont know about his mom - and money is very tight - because i will not be working for 2.5 months this summer while i study for the bar exam

you shouldn't be worried about buying them a gift. Your wedding day alone is going to be more than they can ask for!
FYI: A photographer I met with recommended mypublisher.com to make your own parent albums at a inexpensive priice.

Re: mother of the bride/groom
My parents are paying for the Reception.. so they are definitely getting something extremely NICE from us!!!!!! FH's parents chipped in for the Engagement Party==which is this saturday YAY-----and they said they are going to give us some extra money too! so I will definitely be buying them gifts!!
but.. if they didn't give anything toward the wedding, I would stll porbably guy thems omething small.. like a nice picture frame......... for the wedding pic we give them..... (check out PErsonalizationmall.com they have some great wedding stuff) and you can watch for their sales :)
