A beautiful song my son picked for our mother and son dance at his wedding was Celine Dion's 'Because you loved me'. It was perfect

My DH and his mom danced to You are the Sunshine of my Life by Stevie Wonder. We wanted something meaningful but upbeat. It was perfect.

'I Hope You Dance' is a beautiful Mother/Son Song to dance to. That's what we are using.

My DH's father passed away as well and I really think we picked the perfect song for them...

In My Life, by the Beatles...
There are places I'll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

Re: mother/ son dance..I need a good song!

Thanks everyone..I appreciate all of your help and your great suggestions. I was doing my yearly cleaning ( haha) and was playing CD's and I figured out what song to use..its By your side by Sade..when his father passed away, a year later to the day that song came on for the first time and my fiance got very sad..he said he felt like it was his dad playing the song for him..its mushy I know, but then he told his mom about the song and she too had heard it for the first time on that date ..so the song has sentimental meaning for both of them and I dont know why I didnt think of it before!!YEA!! But man..you guys offered some great suggestions. I seriosuly loved every song you mentioned...now its got me double thinking my father daughter dance!!! THANKS EVERYONE!!!

Alicia, I don't know this song, and I am sure you are making a wonderful choice. Please don't think I'm being negative or trying 'to rain on your parade', but may I please put in my two cents? Are you sure it won't be TOO sad for them to dance to that partricular song at your wedding? Obviously I don't know how many years ago your FIL passed away, but if I were in that situation, I would be sad enough on the day my son gets married and my husband would not be by my side. I would probably break down hearing a song that we felt had such a strong connection with our feelings. I'm sorry, honey, but I just couldn't help but mention it. You certainly know them both, so you will make the right choice. I just wanted you to think of the flip side here.

All the best,
MOB

No I appreciate your offering me your advice..but I did ask them both and actually I have been asking them to start thinking of suggestions..and then yesterday when my fiance came home from work.I said ' I found the song' and I played it and he said he had been thinking of that song all day as the song they could dance to. He asked his mom and she thought it wsa a great idea too. I truly appreciate your advice on that..and thankyou for speaking up!

How wonderful that it's perfect for them both. Good for you for being sensitive enough to find it on your own, and then to ask how they feel about it. It's not too often that there is something meaningful out there.

(I'm pleased as well as relieved that you didn't take offense to my input. You sounded so excited, but I just wanted to give you another point of view.)

Have a great day. And did you see - the sun if finally out!
