Can anyone recommend places for plus size mother of the bride dresses? Maybe even in the city. We are looking for something formal and not too matronly looking.

what's your price range?
my mom found a great shop that has gorgeous stuff, and does custom work in-house, so they can alter things to suit your needs... but they're on the pricey side.
it's on merrick road... mineola, I think? if you have a higher pricerange and are interested, fm me and I'll see if I can dig up the shop name.

try estelle's in farmingdale.... they have a huge selection of non-matronly gowns...
My Daughters Wedding in Great Neck has great dresses and half the prices of Sugar Plum. The have great plus size. My mom got her dress from there. Sugar Plum is nice but to much $$$$$

I agree. My sister's MIL got her dress from here. The dress was very pretty and she said the service was excellent.

Queen of Hearts in Merrick. They only carry plus size dresses for MOB, MOG and special occasions.

ETA: While Sugarplum has a great selection, their customer service stinks and they are known to have a reputation of not caring for their customers. My mom found a beautiful dress there but htey wanted to charge her full price $720 for a gown that was sold off the rack and beading was missing. We were not impressed with their customer service at all. We ended up not purchasing the dress from them for this reason.

I do agree with the above about Sugarplums, my mom got 2 dresses there.. first went went great and was on sale for an awesome price. The second one we found elsewhere and was $200 less after the fact. The cut out tags which is annoying and usually means they're charging way more than everywhere else.
