Mothers' dresses?

Mothers' dresses?

My mother, FH's mother and stepmother have all asked me if they should be picking dresses in specific colors....I haven't even picked out my bridesmaid dress colors yet! Is this normal for them to ask? I just want them to pick the color they feel they are comfortable/look their best in!

Have other people suggested colors to their mothers, etc? Should I be suggesting that they dress in similar colors to the bridal party?

Re: Mothers' dresses?

I told my mom and FMIL they can wear any color EXCEPT white (or any shade of it), red (my BM dresses) or black. I really don't want my mom and FMIL wearing black - I want them to stand out more.

FMIL wants to wear 'celery' green. Fine with me. My mother has no idea what color she wants to wear yet - she keeps telling me she'll wear whatever I want her to. But I keep telling her that she can pick it. I wouldn't have them match the BP, but maybe wear colors that compliment it if you want.

the etiquette is as follows:

1st the bride picks her dress
next pick the bridesmaids dress
then MOB picks her dress or dress color
then MOG is suppose to pick a complimentary color.

& no one is supposed to wear white to a wedding with the exception of flower girls.

My FMIL asked me what color she can wear and I told her whatever she wants. I think I will tell her not to wear the BM dress color (royal blue), but I don't think she would choose that anyway or black.

My mom actually found a bronzey colored dress at Macy's on sale and bought it. I think it's really beautiful so I'm totally okay with it.

Re: Mothers' dresses?

Thanks for suggestions! I think FH's mothers want to get a move on it and I'm only starting the look at dresses next month and bridesmaids will come after that...hopefully nobody will clash too much but I know nobody will be wearing white (I hope that's a given!).

Thank you!

I agree with Christine.

Our moms are waiting for me to confirm the BM colors. I don't want them wearing whatever color my BMs are wearing.

Re: Mothers' dresses?

yeah i told my mom and fmil that they can't wear white/ivory black or pink but other than that its totally up to them

fmil said my mom should pick first bc that is etiquette but my mom told fmil that if she finds something first just to get it and let her know what color it is...my mom is so picky about dress shopping that she didnt wanna hold fmil up!
