FH and I went back to our first choice reception venue, for which we have not yet signed the contract, to see how it looked on a sunny, clear day (we had only been there at night). It is a barge (flatbottom boat) docked under the Brooklyn Bridge. I walked inside, and after about three minutes I felt totally nauseous. It was pretty windy and the barge was moving quite a bit. I wanted to cry. I went outside and I felt much better.
I came home and decided there way no way I could have my reception there, but of course now that I feel better I think well, it won't be that windy in mid-October, and I can always go outside and get some air (I was much better outside). Of course there's my guests too. I would feel awful if someone got sick!
So I have some serious thinking to do. I swear it was never this windy before! Arrrghghghgh!

Re: Motion sickness concerns over reception venue
Not to scare you, but I worked throughout all of high school and college as a Dock Master on Fire Island. I can tell you, it can get pretty windy in Oct. Lots of effects from Hurricanes and Northeasters. If you have a concern now you might want to seriously consider everything before it is too late.

One thing you can't control is the weather Had this been the first time you went on it? i would check a few more times before you commit. You wil be nervous enough, you don't need to throw motion sickness into the mix! Good luck

Yes, october can be windy, I know so because FH does windsurf and he can't wait for those months when is windy and not so cold yet.
Good luck! you might need to ask your family about this .... for sure there are out of the counter things you can get to avoid to get sick!

I don't know, I personally would not take the risk of the weather and possibly feeling nauseous at your reception. If you felt weird can you imagine a room full of 'green' guests?

In my opinion, even the slightest risk that me or my guests may feel sick during my wedding would be enough for me to choose another location.

Re: Motion sickness concerns over reception venue
Thanks you guys. I can't take the chance. I'm going to look for another reception site. I want it to not be true, but the fact is I'd be taking a chance with my guests and myself, and like you said, you can't control or predict mother nature.
