Mouse in my house

Mouse in my house

I saw a mouse in my house on Friday night in my basement. I've only been physically living here in Monroe for a month and now I'm scared to death for my dog!! Does anyone know if my yorkie will either try to eat it or if the mouse will will try to bite him? Can Bruno get a disease from it? Sorry if these are irrational questions but I'm scared for him and I've never had a mouse in a house before. I blocked both entrances to the basement from the main floor and put down glue traps -- any other advice?

Are there any other, more humane traps? I don't know, but I thought there were. My DH caught a mouse in our house (he left the garage door open all day, and all of a sudden I see this little guy scurry, and terrified (the mouse)...so DH got it, and he released him quite far away from the house (we have a lot woods not too far from here).

And, yes, you need to be concerened with leptospirosis, which is found in rodent urine, and can cause kidney failure in dogs (I'm not sure if cats get it).

Do you know how the mouse got in?

I'm not sure how it got here. There's a small whole next to the fireplace & wall that I stuffed tin foil in now until I figure out how to seal it but I can't really be positive.

Glue traps are horrible...and they make the situation dangerous for your dog.

1st - the mouse will not bite your dog, he's not stupid enough to go near him!

2nd - Your dog can't catch the mouse, he doesn't have the nails and he's not fast enough - he's not a cat.

3rd. A glue trap will catch the mouse and mice have been known to be so desperate and terrified that to chew it's own leg off to try to get out of it (especially mother mice that are trying to get to their babies). Then, there will be blood and a disabled mouse. This hurt mouse your dog could catch and the blood could cause him an infection.

So, throw away the glue traps and go to the website below, catch the mouse humanely, then let it outside somewhere that it is near a safe haven (a bush or abandoned building) so that it won't reenter your house.
