i'm moving to brooklyn this weekend- does anyone know anything about not being allowed to move into apartments on Sundays? I know this is an odd question, but FH said he thinks this is true... thanks in advance!

Re: Moving Question
My FH tried to pull the same thing on me.....I think because he wanted to move in on the saturday before but I couldnt. I dont think it true at all. We ended up moving in on a Sunday. Don't know if the rules are different in Brooklyn though!
Good luck!

Re: Moving Question
This is very true!
I moved from Secaucus to NYC in October to live with FH.
The building did NOT allow anyone to move in on the weekend. It HAD to be Monday through Friday.
Also the building had very specific regulation on the moving company and how much insurance they had to have.
Also, my new building were Douchb@gs. They never got the correct insurance certificate and never told me. So Im sitting on the sidewalk with the movers staring at the sidewalk while it got sorted out. We were THERE at the building and the management said 'oh by the way, we never got the insurance certificate'.
Do you think they would have told me (or fH) before we had 50 boxes on the sidewalk and were not allowed to move anything in until it was sorted out??????
Rant over.
But just make sure that the insurance is in place, and you are authorized to move in the day you want to move in. Its a building rule, not a city rule. Each building decided what their move in policy is.
Good luck!

Re: Moving Question
You should be fine. I lived in Park Slope for 3 years and did not have any issue nor did anyone I know have problems with moving on Sundays....but this was in a brownstone and not a building. Depends on whether they have rules. Just check with them first.

Re: Moving Question
you should call your building and find out. Certain buildings only let ppl move in and out during the week bc they dont want you getting in the way of other tenants (i.e. hogging elevators/stairways)

Re: Moving Question
Depends. If you bought a co-op or a condo in an apartment building (like we did in Queens), you are usually not allowed to move in at all on a weekend - FH and I had to move in on a Wednesday between 9-5.

Re: Moving Question
I think it depends on the building...I know when my friend moved she had to move between specific hours and I think she was not allowed to do it on sunday....call your landlord and ask

Re: Moving Question
it depends on the building. when i lived in brooklyn, my building allowed you to move in any day of the week. when i moved to mineola, i could move in only Monday - Saturday - sunday was a no move in/move out day.

Re: Moving Question
It's up to your individual building. A lot of buildings don't allow moving or any work on weekends or after 5pm on weekdays. This is to protect current residents from the noise and disturbances caused by moving.

Re: Moving Question
It's definitely not a law, I'll tell you that much.
It could be building policy, as some people have said. Especially if it's a building where you need a particular elevator to move in.
I live in a Brownstone in Park Slope and it's just us in the building with our landlord, so we could move any day we wanted. When I lived in Brooklyn Heights, it was the same way. I'm certain that I did a good bit of moving on a Sunday.

Re: Moving Question
Def depends on the building. My building is one of em...so its only bt 9-5 M-F. It is 100% to prevent disturbing other residents (taking elevators, making noise, etc when they're home)

I looooove Brooklyn Heights! I'm so jealous, I would love to live there someday! Whereabouts were you?
OK, sorry for interrupting the flow.

Re: Moving Question
hahahahahahaha
Nope not true at all!!! Why would that even be??
I've moved on a Sunday a bunch of times!!! I've moved A LOT in my life!!! AND I'VE EVEN MOVED ON SUPER BOWL SUNDAY... MORE THAN ONCE!!!!!!
EDIT - I just read all the posts... and now i understand this a little better. I was thinking more like Religious reasons preventing all people from being able to move... and I NEVER heard of that before.
I think certain buildings might have their own rules. You really can't get an answer from any of us on that... you would have to contact the building to know for sure.
I've never moved into a building or a multiple family dwelling with more than just a few apts (4 at the most - usually lived in a 2 fam house). Which is probably also why I never heard of this before.

I lived there during law school -- on the corner of State St. & Hicks St.
Was a nice place to live except when I was trying to park my car.
