Every website I check says not to write 'and family' on the invitation envelope. I am only doing an outer envelope, not an inner...people I speak to say 'and family' is totally acceptable and if I write all of the names it will look very wordy...please help!!! What is everyone doing for their envelopes if you are inviting the family? (BTW, I am not sending out additional invites to children over 18 if they are still living with their parents...)

Re: Mr. and Mrs. So and So 'AND FAMILY'
I am making my response cards like this:
We have reserved ______ seats in your honor.
_____ can't wait
_____can't make it
For example, my neighbor's kids who are invited it would say '4' for # of seats. But, on the outer env I will write Mr & Mrs J LaMarca & family. No inner env

You dont always have to go with what the websites say. They are probably very outdated. Its perfectly fine to just write mr and mrs smith and family...or The Smith Family. the invite police wont get you, and im sure no one will say anything....
I absolutely agree all the names would be too wordy, and i think by writing mr and mrs smith...they may think its only for them...or someone will think that...so mr and mrs smith and family, or the smith family. its the 00's....not the 40s..

Imo if you're only doing outer envelopes it's acceptable to do Mr. & Mrs John Doe and Family.
