I'm just wondering why I've had three (four if I count getting my makeup done for my friend's wedding) trials and have disliked all of them. It's not just me, my friends/family agree that the trials don't do anything to enhance the way I look. I can walk into a MAC store any day of the week and get my makeup done for a $50 purchase and be happy with it easily, but here I am paying double that just for trials and I hate them all. If I didn't have 10 other people that want there makeup done on my wedding day I would consider just going to the mall and getting it done. It's so weird, and they've all been reputable people. One didn't have eyelashes, two didn't have lipstick, another had eyelashes that were so long and fluffy I looked like a drag queen, another looked like I had no make up on and wore off very quickly, another looked like I had a ton of make up on and still wore off quickly, one set of eyelashes fell off within an hour, another's eyelashes were glued on so good that it pulled off my real eyelashes. I just can't get it right! I'm just really sick of trials at this point that I may just do my own make up. But I really wanted someone to do the girls and mothers, because usually I do their make up and I really don't want to have to do that on my wedding day.
(More of rant than anything, sorry!!)

Maybe you can hire one of the MAC girls? I dont know exactly how this works but I have heard of people doing this.

try chrisina amador- she did a good job and i felt like others caked it on and made me look like a clown- she made me look classic and really played up my features in a non-cakey type way!- she actually is a former MAC employee then quit and started her own business, so you'd probably like her

Try Christine Martin. We used her for my sister's wedding and I am using her for my wedding.

I used to work at MAC and then started my own makeup business too... that happens more often than you think! You can definitely go in there and ask around if that's what you are looking for. You can FM me for more details if you'd like!

FSIL did this 6? years ago, they came to the house and did it really cheap. it sounds like she just approached them at the mall and said hey u wanna make a buck? lol

My ceremony isn't starting until 6 30, I think I am just going to go to MAC that day and get it done and save a couple of bucks, it'll probably be nice to get out of the house anyway!

Victoria Elizabeth Makeup! I had one trial, showed her one look, and she executed it perfectly!!! I have pictures in my album of my trial!
She's a sweetheart and may give you a deal if you told her you found here on liweddings!
EDIT: Forgot to add that she has a team coming to my house the day of for my girls... 10 people as well.

I did 4 trials also...i blame it on my complete indecisiveness. Have you tried Christy Ann Cosmetics? Maybe it's just because you're not sure what you really want or you have an idea but then you don't like how it ends up looking. I think that has been my problem. Try telling them exactly what you like about when you do your own and asking them to enhance it.

Thanks everyone. I haven't tried Christy Ann yet, maybe I'll give her a try next and I'll check into all the others, too. This last one - I took a pic right from her website of something she did. It was a natural look with brown and pink - on me it came out black and white and really like painted on, it looked terrible. She said she'd come back again. I just couldn't believe she's done it before, she said it's her 'go to bridal look' yet on me it looked so different.
@tianamarie - i like the idea of having a team come, too. The others want to come alone and start at 9am for a 7:30pm wedding (first look at 3:30). I think that's too early.

I used to work for MAC as well and then started my own company. You can most definitely approach almost any girl that does your makeup at MAC and ask them if they are willing to do your wedding.
What you experience is what I hate about a lot of 'MUA' they can do their own really well and decide they are going to make money off of it by pretending to be a MUA with no official training just they do their own makeup well. Which is fine. A lot of us started out that way I did but then got training through MAC on ways of application, skin types. It is scary for a lot of brides that we go through trials after trails spending all this money when we have weddings to pay for. Honestly I usually cut through the red tape with other mua, I tell them upfront I'm a makeup artist myself and am extremely picky. I ask them a bunch of questions. I did that for my sisters wedding. She wanted 1 person to work on her and another to work on the bridesmaids. She wanted me to do the bridesmaids since I was doing it for free and she knew her bridesmaids won't pay to have their makeup done and hired someone I approved and recommend to her.

@bridejackson - Can you tell me what questions to ask to try to weed through? One person I went to was highly recommended here, but was out of her house and I don't think ever worked anywhere else. The other two work in salons. I also hate that the trials are done when they're not working at the salon so the timing is weird. Yesterday I paid $70 for a trial to sit on my couch and not even like it.
