so how are you and fh mixing, bringing both of your cultures together on wedding day?
i'm peruvian and all of my family is 'hard core' peruvian, majority dont speak english and this will be our family's first 'american' wedding...
FH is polish, his family is a bit more modern and has been in the states longer than mine.
so on wedding day...how do we incorporate the two? i'm curious to see how other couples are incorporating their customs and cultures

Re: multicultural weddings
i am still thinking of this myself....we are both very americanized, so it will probably just be 99% typical american wedding....but i do want to find ways to incorporate our heritage without making it look forced or silly.....
food is one way, music is another

Re: multicultural weddings
I'm Irish-American, FH is Bengali-American.
We're having our ceremony at the RH; for that, we will go with a traditional legal American ceremony and he'll wear a tux or suit, I'll wear a white gown.
As the reception begins, he and I will have changed into traditional Indian bridal attire and we'll have an imam (Muslim religious leader; FH and his fam are Muslim) perform a nikkah (which is a Muslim wedding). This will be going on as people are being served their salads, so they'll all be content and stuff, LOL.
We're having the DJ play both American and Indian music - focusing more on the Bollywood-style stuff, since that will get people up and moving on the dance floor.
And during the cocktail hour, we're going to have some Indian food served, like samosas, chana, pakoras, along with the typical American stuff.
Oh and before the wedding (like two days before), we're going to have a henna party for the girls
I think the two main things to focus on that will easily incorporate two cultures is food and music.
HTH!

Re: multicultural weddings
FH's is Puerto Rican and I'm Jewish (I know thats a religion, blah blah, but if anyone wants to know why Jewish ppl say their religion instead of nationality, FM me, lol)
We are both very americanized and were both born here, my parents were also born here, his mom wasnt. It will be pretty american but we will have the horah (jewish) and maybe the lifting up on chairs and we are going to incorporate a few Jewish ceremony traditions as well as Catholic ceremony traditions. I have tried to research Puerto Rican wedding customs but they arent a whole lot and the ones I found, him nor his mom are familiar with so they wouldnt make sense anyway to anyone. Maybe one Puerto Rican dish at Ch and one or two Jewish traditional foods. We will also have a a Spanish slow song for the older people, maybe 2 and definately a portion of the dance music will be Spanish.
