what kind of music are you having during your cocktail hour. I was going to use my dj, but what are my other options? also, how much does it cost?

Re: music for cocktail hour
It really depends on what you want. My DJ provides light CD music for CH, but we have the option to add on live musicians like keyboardists or piano player (I think this ran about $150-$250), sax players and bass players, as well much higher priced live musicians like a Steel Drum band and an Andean Band (which was to quoted at about $900 extra).

I am using Soul Revival for my cocktail hour. I saw them at a friends wedding last summer and LOVED them We are having a jazz trio and are paying $150 per musician, so $450 total. FH and I agreed that we think that is reasonable. They are a vendor on here also Good Luck!! Jane

We are having the steel drum band. Its too expensive for an hour, but what can you do? I think it will add something really special to the CH hour. Especially if its outside (keeping my fingers crossed)!!

Re: music for cocktail hour
We're using a steel drum band. It's around 800, which may seem like a lot, but we went with a DJ for the reception instead of a band, so we saved a lot of $ there. I figured it was a nice way to add a touch of live music and like previous poster, I think it will be really memorable!
As for harpists, Janet King is the one I always hear about. Harps are beautiful! www.nyharpist.com

I was always told to not go the harpist route for a cocktail hour... People are so busy mingling and eating and chatting with people they haven't seen, etc. that the harp tends to get drowned out...

Re: music for cocktail hour
we're having the DJ play during cocktail, but we're having live ceremony music to break it up. (string trio) violin, viola and cello.
You can get a string trio or quartet for cocktail hour too.

I love the idea of a steel drum band. Who are you using? Did you choose between different ones?

Re: music for cocktail hour
Since we are getting married at the hall, we are having a string quartet do our ceremony, and they may turn into a jazz ensemble or just remain playing through CH.
