What r u guys doing for music for the cocktail hour? I was thinking of getting a steel pan band because my FI's family is from the West Indies but I'm afraid that it might be too much money. What do u think about getting like a jazz trio or something? HELP!

Re: Music for cocktail hour?
A steel drum band would be awesome!! But I honestly don''t know if they are more expensive than a jazz trio or not. I might do a jazz trip also if it''s in the budget, if not, I would also love a single musician such as a sax player!
A friend of mine who got married in August did a Mariachi band for the cocktail hour and it was a big hit!

I think steel drums or a jazz trio would be great! Not sure how much it would cost though. We are having a pianist and a vocalist for the cocktail hour. Maybe you could get some quotes from the vendor board.

Maybe your right. A steel pan band might not fit in with the ambience of the Claremont.

Im having the ROyal Brass flute trio (flute, violin and cello) along with a trumpet for my ceremony and cocktail hour. I was going to have a steel drum or some jazz but I didnt think it fit my place either

For $25 our DJ is playing the cocktail hour since he is doing the ceremony but I plan to have very specific lists for both ceremony and cocktail hour

We also would love to have a steel drum. It was out of our budget so we are going to have the DJ play Carribean style music during the cocktail hour.

We''re having a piano player. The room we are having for the cocktail hour has a piano on a slow moving turntable so we had to take advantage of it.

I am from the West Indies as well so we are definitely going to have the steel pan in there somehow. Great Idea

Re: Music for cocktail hour?
I''m having a steel pan band for the cocktail hour - it is $1,500 for but I requested an ''extended'' cocktail hour....I love the music so much - I wanted it for the rest of the reception too but I compromised with FH

Re: Music for cocktail hour?
I''m just getting a nice CD made up of some Enya and Clannad songs, some of the songs done by the Irish Tenors, stuff like that. The cocktail room has speakers in the ceilings. It''s not that big of a room so I don''t think I want to have someone in there.
My friend had a jazz trio for hers....I didn''t even realize it....they were practically hidden. It was nice but I thought it was a CD.

We are using a vendor from this site: Janet King harpist. We will have a harp, cello and flute trio for the cocktail hour.
