I didnt vote b/c there wasnt a choice for both!!!
I think its cool to have a DJ so you hear the way the song really sounds, but have live instruments to accompany the songs so you get that band feel without spending all that $$

I prefer a band as a bride and as a guest (as long as the band the bride chooses is a good one!)
To me, music was VERY important! If a bride can afford to have a band- find a GREAT one! If money is tight for the bride and groom and you can't find a great band in your budget- go with a great DJ!
Nowadays there are so many options! Bands are VERY diverse! My band-heart and soul played all kinds of music-from the oldies to 'our' up to date music! We have been to weddings where the band was awesome and it REALLY brought life to the reception... HOWEVER, we went to two weddings where they had horrific bands and a DJ would have been MUCH preferred!
There is another option- some DJs are now having live music add ons- like a drummer or a singer ETC... this is good too- never been to a wedding like this, but I imagine it would be cool!

I always thought DJ and that is what we are using - especially because we are playing a lot of rock music that I think would be hard to copy.
However, we went to a wedding on Sat, and the band was beyond incredible. UNBELIEVABLE. They played everything from old italian classics to new stuff from the pussycat dolls - and each one sounded like it was a recording.
The bride is on her honeymoon but when she gets back, I need to find the band's info, it was really specatular! !!!

Many DJ companies offer live instruments such as a percussionist to play with the DJ and add a 'live music' sound. Might be an inexpensive, creative option to concider....

I agree. One of my biggest pet peeves is when I hear a song I love and its not the original. It alwasy throws me off and I tend to get annoyed. DJs can also play such a variety and they have every song, whereas a band can only play what they know how to play.

We are all for the DJ. We briefly entertained the idea of a band because of the live music feel but after going to a showcase recently and watching them sing a song that is out on the radio now and it being horrible, we quickly reconsidered the idea. The band was great with older stuff but we like more clubby music. IMO we like to hear the original artists sing.
Not to mention that the band was over 6000!

I also say DJ...you get more variety that way you can switch it up and people of all ages get to dance and enjoy it....I also like the idea of having a live percussionist to go along with the DJ.

I prefer a DJ, especially since our guests are so diverse and come from such different backgrounds. It gives us a chance to cater a little bit to everyone's entertainment needs
