Music venting ... (long)
As some of you know, my FH and I are having some issues with the music for our wedding. He wants a band and is 100% against a DJ, and he particularly wants one certain jam band (cover band). That band doesn't have insurance, so I looked around for more, but now I am thinking we really need to be more well-rounded in the music we play for our guests. I tried to bring this up yesterday and he got upset with me, saying that I am getting everytrhing I want when we agreed that in order to get some of the things I wanted (wedding on LI, larger ceremony than he wanted) he would get a lot of control over some things (music, honeymoon).
So I feel bad, but I really think this is not about what I want but what the guests are going to like and appreciate. Yes, it's our wedding and about what we want ultimately (which is what he keeps saying), but if you are inviting anyone to your wedding I feel that the food, music, etc needs to appeal to them too. You wouldn't just serve lobster at your wedding if that's your favorite food but none of your guests would eat it, right?
(This email is a vent and also asking for advice.)
I would love a band. But they are so expensive - especially the more well-rounded ones. So I was thinking about a DJ that comes with musicians like horn players and a guitarist would be really cool because it's like the best of both worlds. They could play almost anything and there would be live entertainment. We'd have to find a DJ that DOES NOT act like an idiot (no crazy emceeing, just the basics) and DOES NOT play games, have dancers, give out crap no one wants ... we hate that stuff and I think that is why FH doesn't want a DJ. We just want someone with a good, exciting voice who will get people going but not be annoying. No singer needed either, I've been at weddings where the DJ sang and it's like you're at a bad karaoke bar.
Does anyone have a DJ in mind that could do this? And how much should I expect to pay for a basic DJ and 2-3 musicians for 4 hours?
AND, for those who had bands ... is it completely unreasonable to find a good one for $3000? Again, one that is good but not annoying? No dancers, no crazy light show, no effects ...
Thanks for reading .....
