MUST TAKE PHOTO LIST...WHY??

MUST TAKE PHOTO LIST...WHY??

I just don't get it. What is the need for a 'MUST TAKE PHOTO LIST' If you hire a pro photographer why do you need to give this person a list with 'must take photos' on it like, the kiss, the bride with her parents, the rings, ect, ect. Don't these people know to get those photos? I can see giving them a list of photos like 'bride on her motocycle' 'groom on his trampoline' Photos outside of the normal photos they would take. If I was a photographer & you gave me a list of 'must take photos' that included , bride with her mom, bride alone, the kiss, I would be very insulted. These people do this for a living, they should know what to do. If they don't why hire them.

There are some photos that brides specifically want, beyond what we would consider the normal photos.

There are also some people who dont want those photos for one reason or another. I know my photographer had a check list of photos including the Bride with mom, Bride with family, Groom with family, to check which ones you actually did want that day.

Because not everyone's 'must take photo' list is the same.

While one couple might want all of the ones that are on a generic list, another might only want half, another might want most but not all...there's only so much time in a day, so this way they can narrow it down to what you are looking to capture.

Okay that all makes sence.......maybe It's just me. I trust that the photographer I have will do his job. I just don't see the need for a list.

Re: MUST TAKE PHOTO LIST...WHY??

there are plenty of past brides on here and personal friends that have thought that the professional photographer would just know what pics to take, and they miss half the day.

To me the pic of my and my friends is maybe a little more important to others. or the pic w FH and his great grandfather.

And this way it is covering yourself to let the photog know what he needs to do the day of.

If you look at some of the lists posted you will see there are specific shots of random things that are important to that bride, yet not to others

edit: if i was a photog i would be ECSTATIC that someone gave me some direction and told me what do it. this way i know that the bride will be happy with what i took, and there will be no remorse if something is missing.

I think we all believe when we hire someone that 'they will know what to do'. However, how often have we read posts on this board about things that the 'pro's' did or did not do day of? Like the well known florist glueing the BoK together that some poor bride recently had happen.

So, giving the photographer a must take pic list and the DJ a must play list seems like a simple way to avoid not getting something you want/expect.

Handing over a list and saying 'I'm sure you already planned on taking these pics, but hey, better safe than sorry' with a huge grin on your face should be understood by any true professional. I'd make sure to actually mention if there were shots on there that were not the norm.

Just my $0.02

Believe me.. you NEED a must-take photo list. Even if you do give one there will be pictures the photographer never took and you will miss them.

It includes a list of specifics (rings, flowers, garter etc) and of family members who need to be in pictures. The photographer doesn't know who is related to you and need some direction.

Believe me..... You NEED a must take list. I thought that certain pics were automatically taken. Pics of rings, boQ, shoes, veil, the readers during the ceremony, I can go on and on. But as I found out they arent. Please, please do a Must Take list.

Different styles also work differently. Are your more into portraits or photojournalism? That will impact what shots you will want. I have no interest in posing with people I don't know well and I'm not into the whole take the standard pictures of a table. I'm a photographer by hobby but I still have a list. It's not extreme but it's what's important to me. I don't want to waste time at my wedding taking photos I don't want and/or missing out on the ones I do.
