Ostracized... you have a point. I didn't get a chance to read the thread about the groom who was killed, but I figured I'd share my point of view concerning your last comment since I'm an African American bride-to-be.
Here it is: Since I've joined LIW, I've found SO much wedding related information... from halls and flowers to DIYs and makeup. However, being that my parents are from Panama and that I have darker skin, I found the African American Brides AND the Latin American Brides Threads super helpful. It's not about RACE; and that is how I think you're perceiving it.
On those threads, I was able to retrieve information related to Caribbean and Hispanic traditions, foods, etc. The information was WAY easier to find that way. For example, I wanted to find out about makeup artists who are used to working with darker skin tones. It was important for me to find someone experienced. I easily found it on the AAB thread. Another example: traditionally, fruit cake is served with wedding cake in my family. I EASILY found helpful info on the AAB thread related to this. I'm sure that future AAB's will appreciate the simplicity of searching that one thread for all of their unique issues like makeup, music, food, etc. It just makes life easier. All brides are welcome to use the thread for information.
I have the same respect the Chinese Brides thread, Jewish, Greek, Italian, etc. that exist on here. It's all about tradition and easy access to information.
Also, keep in mind that there are very few people who are solely 'African American'. Usually, we have Caribbean backgrounds. Just as 'Caucasian Americans' usually are more that just that. Panamanian, Trinidadian; Italian, Irish for example. Remember that those quoted terms are only labels and were created for classification purposes. That's why the thread is titled African American Brides...
Sure, there could be a 'White Brides Thread' as you suggested it be called... but the term would apply to the majority of LIW brides in some way.
African American brides are a minority here... but perhaps the thread should be titled 'African American/Caribbean Brides'?
I hope this helps a bit and that you understand where I'm coming from.

Forgive me if I repeated and dragged but it's 5am, and after studying all night, I'm a lil' loopy!
I also hope that I didnt offend anyone... just trying to be as explicative as possible.
