so i FINALLY go to go change my name today....i got a ride from the guy at work, tried to find the building, go in, get anally probed at the door, go up to the floor, tell the security dude im there to hane my name n he goes 'what borough do u live3 in' i say queens, he puts his head down, i said dont even tell m e
he goes, sorry u cant do it here

FYI-You have to go to the one in Jamaica, don't even try going to any other location-you will get DENIED...lol They open crazy early like 7:30. I got there at like 9am and was back in my car by 9:30 it was super quick. Parking *****, but there is a lot 2 blocks away, it will cost you about 3 bucks-totally worth it.

They are SUPPOSED to let you hand in your paperwork at any office (and review your originals, etc), but forward it to your servicing office for processing. Going to a different office can cause a delay but they are not supposed to turn you away. They do because they don't get 'credit' for getting the work done if they service someone from outside their area.

I used to be a supervisor at SSA and it is amazing how many employees believe that the rules are different just because other employees make things up.

i think they changed it now bc we have a new ss card processing center that just opened up in jamaica and they want that to be the 'only' place that you go for a card if you are from Queens or Brooklyn since its dedicated only to issuing new cards

still stinks and they should definitely make it clearer!

I just get soooooo annoyed whenever I know what the rules (or POMs) say and I meet someone who tells me otherwise then I whip put my copy of the rule and they still say, 'Well I don't know about that. I'll verify this but I can't help you today.'

but i can COMPLETELY understand your frustration bc i find there is a big make-your-own rules kind of environment going on but since i am brand spanking new i am supposed to know all of the procedure flawlessly and never make a mistake!!

Sorry.. atleast u were told at the door.. I waited for an hour with my sister and my fidgety neice to go to the window and they I have to go to Queens.

Needless to say thank god I didnt have a gun and i havent gone back - its been over 2 months.

i changed it tonite....it was soo easy n fast lol
it took like 20 min.no joke!!

My friend went thru the same thing - she lives in queens and tried to change her name in LI- what a pain in the a$$ - and she said the Jamaica place is hell....
