My baby is bald!

My baby is bald!

So I went away for the weekend, and left my finches Cream and Sugar with plenty of food and water. Since it is springtime, they have been a little agressive to each other, but I've kept them fairly civil. Well, I came back today and poor Sugar was bald. Her back and front feathers were all gone and I can actually see the seed in her crop. Cream just pecked at her until there were no feathers left. Its so awful and it breaks my heart to see my baby this way. Tomorrow first thing I am going to buy another cage and I am separating them so Sugar can recover in peace. I'm going to take Cream (the dominant one) out and put her in the new cage. That way when I reintroduce them they will be on equal ground. Just had to vent a little. I love these birds so much, I hate when they do this to each other!!

oh man, my zebra finches used to do that to each other all the time. I hated it. It makes them look like buzzards with their neck all naked like that.

I also used to separate them for a bit as well.

to your little finchies

Re: My baby is bald!

Thanks! The next day after I posted I bought a little cage in petsmart, and I separated them. But I didn't want the agressive one to think I was punishing her, so I bought her a new swing and put toys inside! Sugar is looking better. It creeps me out to see the seed in her crop. But I figure in a month she'll have all her feathers back. I even called Marc Marrone (The guy who has the petkeeping show on TV) and he said to give it 2-3 months and then they should be fine. Thanks for the hugs. I just feel bad for them since they are lonely. I put the little cage on top of my bigger one and so they call to each other all day, and poor Sugar keeps looking upward for Cream
