My band leader just screamed at my mom

My mom called the band leader to request that a particular man in the band sing fewer songs--it is a 6 piece, and one guys voice is just not quite so good. I had requested songs sang by the other members, but also wanted to let her know why we did that. The woman SCREAMED at my mom on the phone saying this left her with a bad taste in her mouth and she didn't even feel like playing now (the wedding is a week away) and if we don't like the band members we should find a new band and they keep our money. She tried to assure them that of course we want them, we just wanted to see about this one thing...

Now I am so worried they will show up late or mess up....

that is absolutely awful!! YOU are paying for their services and should be allowed to have whoever YOU want sing! Extremely unprofessional behavior. I'm so sorry.....

How unprofessional. You are paying them. You have the right to make any reasonable request and this request was not out of line.

You should call them yourself and get this straightened out before it's too late. You are still paying them for their service and they need to do what you ask. I'm so sorry they gave your mom a hard time.

I agree. I think you should get this smoothed over as best you can so they don't intentionally do anything to effect your day!

I so disagree with the previous posts. This is not your job to make a band leader feel good. THis is your event, one you are PAYING THEM handsomely to work at and they better damn well follow your instructions. I would call them very politely and say 'There must have a been a misunderstanding, because my mother was quite upset after getting off of the phone' and get explanation and assurances that things will be taken care of to your satisfaction.

Ugh! That's so stressful and awful.

I agree with Deb.

You may want to come up with a plan B, in case things don't work out. And, if you were referred to that band by your hall, go back to them and let them know what happenned.

What really pisses me off is I was telling FH about it and he seemed to side with the band leader! He said, you did criticize one of the band members, she probably took offense! To me, if I am paying all this money, I should have the right to decide who I want singing the songs I choose. He said she is an artist and probably took it personally. But anyone would say this particular band member's voice was just not as good!!!!!!! Ugh, I am just so ready to cry and really just don't feel like dealing with FH or the band now!!!!!!!!

Oh my god, you poor thing! I had similar dealings with my band a week before my wedding. They know they have you when it is a week away. How could one possibly book another band in a week. I hope your band isnt Creations Band because they screwed us BIG TIME!!!! Took our money and ran and when I voiced my opinion to the company that I got them through (Franklyn Wayne) he told me I should not of paid them and my money is gone. It is one lie after another in this business!!!!

I am going to disagree with some people who say to take this further and say that you should let sleeping dogs lie at this point with the wedding being so close. Yes, this is your money and you have a right to tell them what to do technically, but at my wedding I found out the hard way that people have a lot of pride and don't want to feel embarassed in front of co-workers. Furthermore, This woman your mother talked to could have been the husband of the guy you did not want to sing. I would not take this further because they might act like children on the day of the wedding in retaliation- one singer might 'get sick', they might 'take an extra break'. These are human beings first and some people won't accept the 'its just business- nothing personal'. Good luck! Ultimately, they will do a better job if they like you.

they cannot keep your money. that's just insane. if they're 'gracefully' threatening to bow out, then that's their choice. you should get your money back. but as to how to resolve this.. jeez... dunno what to tell ya. maybe turn it around on them. tell they CANNOT take your money due to this. and if they don't want to do the job because of one person's bruised ego.. -- damn.. i really dunno what to tell you. as i'm writing this, i'm feeling kinda worried for you. good luck. i hope things work out for you!
