My best Mother's Day ever!!! Long but please read.

Original post by Wendy

Forgive me for this is going to be a bit of a long post, but I got the most awesome Mother's Day gift from my son.

As some of you may know my kids are older(daughter 25 and son 19). Over the years of raising them I have oftened doubted my parental abilities as well as questioned my sanity...why did I have children again? When your children are small it is so easy to believe that they will always be these perfect little human beings. Of course that only lasts til the day your child throws a temper tantrum in the middle of the grocery store because you refuse to let them have candy. As everyone else in the store stares at you and wonders why are unable to control your child you find yourself wishing that the floor would just open up and swallow you and the monster that your beautiful child has become!

As they become older you are constantly faced with challenges that no one has prepared you for. You do your very best to prepare your child for all that life will bring, but what do you do when your 17 year old daughter comes home and tells you that she is pregnant and that she wanted this to happen? Or when the high scool guidance counselor calls to tell you that your son, whose IQ is 20 points higher than yours, is in danger of not graduating because he hasn't handed in his AP English homework for an entire quarter.

But then you get a gift like I got yesterday and you know that you have gotten it right. My son gave me a book entitlied 'Dear Mom, Thank You for Everything' and this is what he wrote to me on the inside cover....

'Dear Mom,

I realize that this isn't the greatest gift that you will ever get, but there is nothing in the world, except maybe the world itself, that I could give you to express how much you mean to me. You are my lifeline and you have saved me from more than you could ever know. The person that I am today, I am because of you, because of how much you cared and loved, because of all that you have taught me and shown me over the years. You are an amazing human being and I live to see you happy. As much as I can annoy you at times, in the end I will always try to make you laugh and smile. The simple fact of it all is, your absence weighs more than someone else's presence. Despite the fact that you sometimes say you have failed as a mother, you never have once, and I will always be proud to call you Mom.

Love always,
Scott

PS. I owe you a better gift.'

As you can imgine I was in tears. There is no better gift that I could ever receive than this one. Now I finally think I know what being a mom is all about and I wouldn't trade it for the world!!!!

Wow that was beautiful. You were obviously a great mother. That letter speaks volumes. Congrats to you for a job well done. As my mom says, a mother's job is never done.
