I didn't even know that she was seeing someone when she told me that she was engaged in November. I thought that they would wait but they decided to get married this June. Last night I noticed that she wasn't wearing her e-ring and she told me that her fiance scares her. He intimidates her, fights with her all the time, makes her cry all the time and she asked me if that was normal. I felt bad saying it but I told her that it's not normal. She had a feeling about that so she is breaking it off. I feel bad because she was getting married at the same reception hall a month before my wedding. I hope she'll be okay.

Although it stinks, better she find out now that after the wedding. She deserves better than that.

It's definitely better for her to end it now than be really sorry later.

Amen to that!
My ex-fiance was a doll until I got the ring on my finger. My father loved him..heck my stepmother introduced to people as my husband and her son-in-law.
But he scared me. He never hit me, but he got angry. Very paranoid about where I was and what I was doing and with who. He got Mean. I thought it's just me being overly sensitive. But god the anger and things he would (or wouldnt say).
Finally I broke it off when he humiliated me via speaker phone while I was at my BM's house. He didn't know he was on speaker phone and I was so ...weak (i guess).. I couldnt say a word till he was done. I called to say we were invited to her house for dinner and he said I wasn't there I was out getting F'ed by my ex and other really nasty stuff to say.
Im now glad it happened that way. If it hadn't been for the fact that I felt so stupid because my friend heard him treat me this way, I don't know, I may have stayed with him.
When I broke it off, he actually chased me out to my car (we lived together) and yelled at me that I could NOT break off our engagement. He was a creep and was creepy.. but only AFTER I got the ring on my finger. It was strange.
Engagement does not automatically mean Marriage. Its much better to break off an engagement than go through divorce. I wish your friend all the best, because I've been there myself.

Don't you hate when that happens...someone to share your joy with..now has dampen spirits.
Tell her she is making a smart decision. And always be there for her.

Re: My BF is breaking off her engagement.
She's making the right decision, and so much better off now than after getting married. My cousin married a guy who was emotionally abusive to her b/c she was embarrassed to call it off, and the whole marriage lasted about 2 weeks. It's so much harder to break it off after the wedding than before, so good for her!

She's doing the right thing. She deserves to be treated properly and with respect and she will find someone who will treat her that way.
