My birth story
My birth story
I went in to St.Charles Wed. night at 5pm for Cervidil since I wasn't dilating but was effaced and having contractions. They placed the cervidil and let it sit overnight. My contractions by morning were about 2-3 minutes apart but not too painful. When my ob checked me I was as he reffered to it a 'generous 1 centimeter '. I was so upset, but he said he was able to break my bag of waters which would get things moving. So he broke them around 10am. Within 10 minuted my contractions were on top of each other and PAINFUL!!!! I got a shot of Demerol which did absolutely nothing and by 1ish I was begging for an epidural-the nurse checked me and I was up to 5 centimeters-so onto the epidural!!!!! It was absolute heaven. I was still able to tell when I was contracting because I would have pressure on my cervix but no pain!
I then fell asleep for a few hours and my contractions slooowed alot. I figured I was making no progress but when my doctor came in to check me at 3:30 he goes 'I have good news, and it's not that I saved a lot of money on my car insurance' I was fully dilated and ready to push.
I started pushing at 3:45 but since the epidural slowed my contractions so much they started Pitocin on me to get them going. I pushed a little over 2 hours and at 5:57pm my daughter was born
She cried right away and her apgars were 9 & 10. I was able to hold her right away but I didn't nurse because I started getting the shakes and turned out I was spiking a fever so they needed to keep an eye on me.
After some extra fluids I was fine then.
I am still quite sore from the episitomy-she had quite a full head and i'm having some bad headaches which they said is an after result of the epidural but i'm enjoying being home with my little girl!!!
