Another question, do I have a dance with my brother like you would your father?
It just seems weird to me. We love each other, but we are still like little kids where we think it's gross to be affectionate.---lol
What have others done?
Thanks

Re: My brother is giving me away
I am going to dance with my brother. My brother feels he has role to abide by. He cries when he thinks of us dancing. He wants to do my dad proud. If you feel uncomfortable, what if you dance with your bro and half way through dance with you mom or just your mom???

That is a good idea. Any song suggestions?
My brother and I are close, but we have a different situation. My brother has always played the protector role, but he wouldn't get teary eyed over it. I wish he would though.
Dumb question, but what is the proper way to dance with your Mom or brother--lol?

Re: My brother is giving me away
I am not really sure if there is a proper way. One of my friends danced for the first half of the song with the brother and then with her mother. It was so nice. (I would have done this with my mom, but my mom is shy )
As for song suggestions I am not sure. I am going to play 'through the Years' by Kenny Roger. Kenny Rogers was my fathers favorite. I was only 4 when he passes, but I can see him in our den sitting there and enjoying Kenny. Is there a song that maybe you have that reminds you of your father?

Re: My brother is giving me away
At my sister's wedding, she had both brothers walk her down the aisle and then danced with one. At my wedding I had one brother walk me down the aisle and after the cake cutting (when the father/daughter dance usually happens) I had the DJ call both brothers & my sister to the dance floor for all of us to dance together to Wind Beneath My Wings which I had dedicated to my mother.

Re: My brother is giving me away
I don't think I am going to do a dance with my brother, I think it might be too difficult for me. In fact, i would like to eliminate all the 'parent' dances altogether, but I realize that would be unfair to FH and FMIL, who are probably looking forward to that moment...

I know what you mean about it being gross to be so affectionate. BUT its your bro! Its only a dance! I think its beautiful that you have him togive you away and should definatly do the first dance with you. If youre uncomfortable, maybe ask the dj/band to call everyone else up to the dance floor with you so its not spotlight for the whole 3 or 4 minutes...

My brother walked me down the aisle, but I did not do a 'special' dance with him. I did dance with him, but I did not want to feel like I was trying to replace the Father & Daughter dance. It would have made me upset. Do whatever feels right to you!

You don't have to dance with your brother just bc he's walking you down. Or you could dance with him to an upbeat song and have some fun with it. Maybe something from when you were kids, that always makes you think of him...
