so we met w/our pastor about 4 months ago, at the time we werent sure of a date but def knew it would be sometime in late 2010. He told us to come back this october (2009) so he can write it in the book..... Now that I have a definite RH (12/4/2010) and started booking vendors (photo/video) they're asking what time my ceremony would be....quite frankly i dont know!!!!
what do i do?!??! should i start harrassing my church?? oh and the priest ALWAYS picks up the phone at this church...
I love this church, its in the corner of my house, its BEAUTIFUL...bit I do know that there are very few ceremonies there... abt 10 weddings a year!
help! --------------------------UPDATE! So wonderful Father Carlo called me back yesterday and he said that I don't need to worry and we'll discuss details in October-December

I would call them and ask to be penciled in then you will call in October to set up a meeting to go over details, pre cana etc....
I am sure the church won't be upset that you are just trying to secure a date.

Don't be scared...just call him and let him know you have a date picked. He told you to come back in October, and it's August, I don't think 2 months is that big of a deal...Good Luck!!!

That's strange, usually the church prefers you set a date with them before you start booking anything else. I would just meet with them again and explain that you have a date now and you need to book.

Most churches won't set a date until the 1 year mark, that's probably why he told you to come in later this year. If its a very strict church they probably won't like that you booked everything so far, I have no idea why but a lot of churches get offended. I would call and tell them that you are looking to secure the date with your RH but wanted to check with them first.

Call the church. Its really important to get the church first. Even if they aren't booking for December 2010 yet I would ask them to pencil you in or make a note and then call back to 'remind' them in October. Good luck!

I agree.... I would call them and tell them that you want to set the date with them first... (even though you already booked RH and vendors). The church likes to hear that they were your first priority!

oh our priest has no idea that we have booked any vendors.. i know he will be very upset... so how do i tell him that i kind of need to know that the date is secure and the time of the event? i just called and left a vm apparently they have a parish secretary now (old lady that can barely hear and volunteers once a week!) she will pass my message on to the pastor. oh boy..i hope he gives me some clarity....

his exact words....

ughhh that's so nerve wracking!!
Figure though, he knows his church I am sure if he figured it would be booked he would have met with you. You even said they don't do many weddings. So just keep your fingers crossed!! I am sure it will work out
book your vendors tell them that church. If the church should change call and tell them. I had to do it. It wasn't a big deal at all. Time wise just pick the time you want and again you can always change it
