My crazy Dad

My crazy Dad

The control freak strikes again! Now he's booked limos without even bothering to tell me! FH and I were supposed to take care of (and pay for) that (and we didn't really want anything other than a simple car for just us...dad's booked a Rolls AND two limos for the BP!!) I mentioned this and his response was, 'well I guess I'll pay for them then.'

Actually, I find it kind of cute that he wants to be all involved.

OH BOY!!! Seems like your dad REALLY wants to get involved. He seems like a generous man, but doesn't seem to understand when he should be generous and when he should not. I think you and him need to have a nice father/daughter chat. You need to set some kind of guidelines for him to follow. He cannot keep going out and making arrangements without your approval or even KNOWLEDGE! I'm sure he means well, just have a little chat with him.

Good luck!

for ya!

WOW. I guess he is excited and wants to be involved. Are you his only daughter or the oldest? OH btw maybe it's just a car thing. My Dads really into them also.

Re: My crazy Dad

I know he means well, but the thing with my dad is that he ALWAYS feels he needs to be in control of my life. It's not just the wedding. He thinks I am still 16 (I'll be 30 this year)! And when I did try to talk to him about it before (because he was also upset that the RSVPs are coming to me, even though I changed the invitation wording to the traditional way, despite how much FH and I both hate it that way and the fact that we are paying for 1/2 this wedding), he basically yelled at me and said I was 'making (him) look like a schmuck' and 'trying to ruin his party' (not kidding).

Edited to say, yes, I am both the oldest and only daughter.

Re: My crazy Dad

I guess he needs to be reminded that this is your party.

My dad has made a few comments to me that made me feel like he felt the reception was a reflection of him....maybe that is how he feels.

Just a guess

Re: My crazy Dad

yes, I think you're right, Regina. I think it's a very Italian thing to do, too...he feels he needs to have a big wedding, a la the Godfather, to impress all his family and friends. I just wish he would remember it's my day too.

Re: My crazy Dad

And from my perspective I would say, be thankful that your dad will be there on your special day. Not all of us brides are so lucky. Sounds like he means well and that he's doing out of love for his daughter (and maybe a little Italian pride ).

AGHGHGH. I can totally relate. Love my Dad to pieces, but he is definitely a control freak, I really shouldn't complain b/c they are paying for almost all of the wedding, but he is inviting EVERYONE that he has ever known since birth it seems, and he is giving me a hard time about inviting 'too many of my friends!!!' He definitely feels the need to impress people, and it drives me crazy!!! Alison- we'll have a lot to discuss at the DC GTG tonight!!!

Re: My crazy Dad

Alison-

You may have to remind him of that. My father was really pushing me to invite more people, and I want to keep b/w 130-140. I finally had to tell him it was my way or the highway(or VEGAS).

It is my day and I will organize it the way I want. And reminder him, that he got remarried 3 years ago and that was his day and if he wanted things to be a certain way then he should have done it at his wedding! Truth hurts some times.

Re: My crazy Dad

I have to admit Alison, he does seem to be going a little far now you'll have to tell him to take 2 steps back, and tell him it's wonderful he wants to be involved, but he cannot just go off and handle things by himself like that. Tell him he can HELP, not TAKE OVER.

I know you dad must be making you crazy, and I know how hard it is. But I also think it is sweet that he wants to pay for things for your wedding and be involved. I would love someone in my family to be that way. However, I also agree that people need to know their boundaries.

Re: My crazy Dad

Yeah, I hear you.... But, What I wouldn't give for my parents to be involved at all... Sometimes I beg them just to pretend to give a **** about the wedding... but I do understand...

Re: My crazy Dad

I guess the grass is always greener...

I am really going to try to roll with the punches as much as possible with this (and with everything). Even if he can be a 'Dadzilla' sometimes. I know he means well and it's not worth my energy to get TOO worked up over stuff.

Of course, we already have the BP 'on alert' for when he inevitably gets up on stage at the wedding to sing a song....or 12.
